A correspondent named “Phil” from Big Creek in Logan County, West Virginia, offered the following news, which the Logan Banner printed on April 28, 1922:
Earl McComas, son of Mr. and Mrs. H.B. McComas, died last week of pneumonia.
Dr. Whitehall who has been visiting friends and relatives in South Bend, Ind., for the past week or ten days has returned.
Mr. P.M. Toney has been attending business matters in Huntington for the past week.
Mr. Howard Fry of Sand Creek died last week of pneumonia and influenza.
Big Creek is coming to the front more every day. We note that the picture theatre is running three days a week instead of two.
Additional News:
Mrs. Lewis Stowers who has been in for some time died Monday night and was buried Tuesday evening.
Serious murder case at Ferrellsburg last Sunday evening; it is said that Albert Messer killed Ike Dean which was a very bloody and sad affair, which is said to be the result of an old grudge. Messer surrendered to authorities and was taken to Hamlin to jail Tuesday morning.
Mrs. Stone has been away visiting relatives in Huntington for the past week and taking a rest after a spell of sickness.
Frank Stone brakeman on the switch engine at Big Creek was hit by a switch lever, slightly injuring the left side of his face, and has been off from duty for the past ten days on that account. He returned to work on Tuesday.
There was a large freight wreck just below Stone Branch Monday at noon. 15 freight cars derailed and caused passenger trains to transfer Monday evening. The wreck was cleared after several hours work with the tool cars.

Mr. Ance Curry of Leet is very ill and there will be prayer service at his home tonight.
Mr. Wayne C. Brumfield was calling at the home of Miss Thelma Huffman Sunday, but she had gone to Logan.
Mr. George Hager called on Miss Gertie Smith Sunday.
Miss Weltha Lambert was out horseback riding Sunday.
Miss Lillie Lucas and sister were calling on friends in Sand Creek Sunday.
Mrs. Bell Gue seems to be enjoying life these cool days, as she is through hoeing corn for a few days.
James Gue will hold a protracted meeting in Leet soon. Come on, Jim. We like to hear you preach.

Miss Jewell Brumfield attended Sunday school at Gill Sunday and was accompanied by Sylvia Ciphers and Hawkins Perry.
J.C. McEldowney of Charleston was calling on friends and relatives at Harts Saturday.
Chas. Brumfield was a business caller in Huntington Saturday.
Ward Brumfield was transacting business in Hamlin Saturday.
Blanch, Anna and Laura Lambert were visiting friends in Harts Wednesday.
Hardin Marcum was calling on Shirlie Adkins at West Hamlin Sunday.
Hendrix Brumfield attended singing at Coal Branch Sunday and reported there were over fifty singers present and the singing was progressing nicely.
Every body is planning to hunt Easter eggs here.
Mrs. C.C. Pack and daughter, Miss May, were visiting relatives in Logan Saturday and Sunday.
Enos Dials spent Sunday in Huntington.

Between 1879 and 1910, the following men served as justices of the peace in the Harts Creek community. The primary source for this material is “Commissioner’s Record of Destroyed Title Papers 2,” which is located at the Lincoln County Clerk’s Office in Hamlin, WV. Material is arranged based on the person’s name as given in the deed, the date of the deed, and the date of the deed’s acknowledgment by a JP. I have also found JPs listed in Deed Book 50, 51, 52, 54, 55, 56, and 60. Deed Book “S” at the Logan County Clerk’s Office as well as numerous records in the Logan County Circuit Clerk’s Office have also provided information. The Price Lucas Family Cemetery, which I visited on 3 September 2015, is located on Sand Creek ridge in Lincoln County, WV. Today, this cemetery is popularly known as the Lucas Cemetery or Lucas-Farley Cemetery. To reach the cemetery, drive 3.5 miles up the Big Fork or Laurel Fork of Saw Mill Hollow of Sand Creek. A four-wheel drive vehicle is required. I last visited this cemetery on 12 September 2002.
