From the Logan Banner of Logan, WV, in a story titled “Conditions Century Ago: Charleston Educator Tells of Settlement of Kanawha County Which Embraced Part of What Is Now Logan–With 550 Population Charleston Was Metropolis of Kanawha Valley,” comes this bit of history for the city of Charleston dated October 14, 1927:

Josiah Hughes, principal of the South Charleston graded schools, has written a sketch of Kanawha county, telling of the activities of a century and more ago. It is of interest here, because Logan county was created in 1824 from parts of Kanawha, Cabell, Giles and Tazewell, and because some of the pioneers he names have descendants in Logan. Kanawha county was formed Oct. 5, 1789. His article in part follows.

Charleston was the largest town in the valley, and had a population of approximately 550. It had its stores, its schools, its court house, its jail, its pillory, and its whipping post.

The postoffice at Charleston was “Kanawha C.H.” established under that name in 1801, and was so called until late in 1879. Among those who received their mail here one century ago were the following: Leonard Morris (an ancestor of Roy J. Morris, who is in the local C. & O. ticket office), probably the earliest of the pioneers of the valley; Fleming Cobb, the noted Indian scout, who lies buried near the mouth of Davis Creek; John P. Huddleston, who hunted and trapped with Daniel Boone; Alex W. Quarrier, who was many years clerk of the courts of Kanawha county; Herbert P. Gaines, founder of the first newspaper in Charleston; John Young, whose father saved him and his mother from death by Indians when Fort Tackett at the mouth of Coal River was destroyed about 1789; Dr. William Cobb, the first physician in this valley and the ancestor of the Cobb family near Clendenin; Michael Newhouse, a noted pioneer of Elk river; Ebenezer Oakes, a near ancestor of our townsman, L.H. Oakes; Charles Droddy, the first settler at Walton; Owen Jarrett, noted ancestor of the Jarrett family in Kanawha county; Col. David Ruffner, the noted business man whose enterprise made possible the establishment of Mercer Academy in Charleston one hundred and ten years ago; Benjamin Morris, a noted pioneer and near ancestor of Benjamin F. Morris of Marmet; Col. Andrew Donnally, whose father built Donnally’s Fort in Greenbrier county.

During the years 1825-1829. “The Western Virginian,” as it was called, was the only newspaper published in Charleston. Mason Campbell was editor.

50 Salt Furnaces

The first great industry in the Great Kanawha Valley was the manufacturing of salt. One hundred years ago more than fifty salt furnaces were in active operation. A few years later the annual production of salt reached upwards of 3,000,000 bushels.

Kanawha Salines, now Malden, was the center of the great industrial area. The salt companies had greater stores than could be found in Charleston and many of the citizens of Charleston went to Kanawha Salines to do their trading.

One hundred years ago only a few coal mines had been opened up. Wood was the principal fuel used at the salt furnaces. Prior to 1830 but little coal was used by the salt makers. The coal industry in this valley was of comparatively small value until the opening of the Chesapeake and Ohio railroad in 1873.

By 1827 three steamboats had succeeded in reaching Charleston. In 1830 the first towboat on the Kanawha reached Charleston.

Before the close of the first quarter of the nineteenth century missionaries of various churches had visited the valley and preached in the homes of the pioneers. The Protestant Episcopal church established parishes in Kanawha valley about 1821. The Rev. Charles Page was the preacher for the churches at Point Pleasant, Charleston and Coalsmouth (St. Albans). But the Presbyterian church was probably the pioneer in the valley, although small congregations of communicants of the Baptist and Methodist churches may have worshiped in the homes of some of the pioneers. Dr. Henry Ruffner organized the first Presbyterian church in Kanawha county in 1818. The church was organized in Charleston.

From the Logan Democrat of Logan, WV, comes this interesting bit of railroad history titled “High Officials of C. & O. Pay Visit to Guyan Valley,” printed on January 11, 1917.

HIGH OFFICIALS OF C. & O. PAY VISIT TO GUYAN VALLEY

In a special train of four cars, President G.W. Stevens and other high officials of the Chesapeake & Ohio Railway company made an inspection up through the Guyan Valley on last Tuesday of this week, and that evening held a lengthy conference with Chamber of Commerce leaders and other prominent citizens of the city in regard to the needs and prospective improvements of the region, and during which many matters were placed upon a very satisfactory basis and better understanding.

Accompanying President Stevens were J. Paul Stevens, general manager; L.B. Allen, general superintendent; E.L. Bock, division superintendent; E.D. Hotchkiss, general freight agent; Mr. Walls, real estate agent; Mr. Trumbull, chairman of the board of directors and a number of other men prominently identified with the great railroad system, all of whom were enthusiastic over the wonderful development of the local coal fields and highly pleased with their trip.

As a result of the meeting it is understood that the long sought chair car on all Huntington trains will become a fixture in the near future, and that several other important and highly desired railroad improvements will very soon be started or accomplished.

From the Logan Democrat of Logan, WV, comes this item of news about the C&O and a proposed new Logan train station, dated May 10, 1917:

C. & O. PLANS NEW STATION

Great Volume of Business in Logan Compels Road to Consider Step

The C. & O. has decided on building a new freight and passenger station in Logan, according to a widely circulated rumor in railroad circles. The step has been under consideration for some time and it is said that the need for a bigger terminal in Logan has become imperative since this division was detached from the Huntington division and created into a separate branch of the system.

It is impossible at this time to verify the report that the new station is assured but a couple of railroad men who are said to have the confidence of those “higher up” have declared that a new station at Logan has become an absolute necessity.

Along with this rumor is another to the effect that the rapid development of the Logan county coal fields and the ever increasing volume of coal produce here will soon result in the system being doubletracked from Logan to Huntington. This measure is said to have been decided upon as a measure of economy as the existing conditions do not permit the railroad to realize the full extent of its possibilities.

More Than Talk

These rumors which have gained circulation before have been vigorously revived in railroad circles and the increasing importance attached to the Logan division make it appear as if more than talk would eventuate.

The Logan division is well known among traffic men in this part of the country is the most productive of the entire C. & O. system. More business is done through the Logan freight office than in Cincinnati or any other large city which is touched by that railroad. Furthermore, the constantly increasing number of new coal operations in Logan county show that the possibilities of this field are as yet only in their infancy. In a few more years, traffic under a single track system would be entirely congested and a double track will be the only means of enabling the railroad to care for the business in this field.

The creation of Logan as a separate division emphasizes the necessity of a new station to care for the force of officials and clerks who are  brought to the city. At the present time, superintendent W.E. Webb and his staff are compelled to occupy offices at Peach Creek which they will use until an addition is built to the yard office, but this too will be only of a temporary nature. Larger quarters, such as afforded in the Huntington station, are needed by the division chief and his staff and are said to be contemplated in the plans under consideration for a new station at Logan.

Supt. Webb Arrives

Supt. Webb and his staff arrived in Logan last week and were busy seeking suitable accommodations the first few days. Supt. Webb is not new to this field as he was for many years chief clerk to the division superintendent at Huntington who formerly had charge of the Logan District. Mr. Webb is a comparatively young man and is looked upon as one of the most promising younger railroad executives in the country. As chief clerk he had the respect and confidence of both officials and clerks and doubtless will make an enviable reputation as chief of the newest division on the C. & O. system. He bears the reputation of never speaking without coming directly to the point and wasting no unnecessary words.

The other officials and clerical staff heads here now are: H.A. Davin, trainmaster; H.C. Davis, assistant trainmaster; R.W. Mumfort, chief engineer and E.F. Parkins, time keeper. A number of other clerks are expected in a few days.

From the Logan Democrat, of Logan, WV, come these items of local interest dated 1917:

CHAIR CARS NOW ON ALL GUYAN RIVER TRAINS

In prompt response to their promise made a couple of weeks ago, the division officials of the Chesapeake & Ohio railway, on last Saturday provided an additional chair car for the Huntington to Logan service, and as a result Guyan river travelers are now more conveniently and satisfactorily provided for than at any time since the introduction of the railroad into this territory a little more than a dozen years ago.

The extra equipment now gives a chair car on all through trains, an to prove that it was needed and is much appreciated by the traveling public is the fact that on almost every trip since its installation the new car has been completely filled.

Travelers no longer need dread the long trip up or down the old Guyan, and the more satisfactory service is bound to result in many happy results for this section and our people.

“OLD GLORY” RAISED

BIG BOOZE SHIPMENT

The C. & O. Monday night received a great quantity of liquor for consumers in Logan county. Monday night was the last chance for those whose wine cellars were slim and whiskey bottles were empty to get a supply before the state started on its on-quart of whisky a month. Under the old law a man could bring in as much liquor as he could carry in a suitcase and a great many evidently took advantage of this law before it was superseded by the new law.

Big Flag Is Flaunted To Breezes Over Court House Before Big Crowd

A large “Old Glory” was flaunted to the breezes over the dome of the court house last Saturday before an immense crowd of citizens, a number of whom came quite a distance to view the ceremonies.

The raising occurred shortly after two o’clock. Previous to that time the Logan band reinforced by the musicians of Herbert’s Greater Shows rendered a few musical numbers. As the flag was raised the musicians struck up the Star Spangled Banner, a large number of people took off their hands and the ceremonies were over.

Although flags are much in evidence on people and buildings in Logan, not a single bond of the “Liberty Loan” has been purchased here, according to the First National bank.

NEW GUYAN DIVISION

C. & O. Railroad From Huntington To This City Is Detached From Former Organization

The C. & O. has detached the Guyan Valley district from the Huntington division and created it as a separate division under Superintendent H.E. Webb, formerly of Huntington. A number of other changes are made on the C. & O., which are announced in the following official order:

Richmond, Va., April 30, 1917.

Effective May 1, 1917:

The eastern general division is extended to Hinton, W.Va., and the line Clifton Forge to Hinton, including all branches (Greenbrier district excepted) will be attached to the Clifton Forge division.

The Greenbrier district will be known as the Greenbrier division.

The Hinton division will consist of the line Hinton to Handley, including branches.

The Guyandotte district is detached from the Huntington division, and will be known as the Guyandotte division.

Due to rearrangement of the general divisions and divisions, the following appointments are effective May 1, 1917:

Mr. C.S. Falconer, assistant superintendent, Allegheny district and its branches, Clifton Forge division, Hinton, W.Va.

Mr. F.D. Beall, division engineer, Clifton Forge division, Clifton Forge, Va.

Mr. J.W. Haynes, superintendent Greenbrier division, Ronceverte, West Va.

Island Creek Co. Plans Building of New Town

Contracts Will Be Let Within 30 Days For Houses, Highways and Also Tipple For Largest Mine In West Virginia, Says Vice President–May Spend $2,000,000.

Within the next year there will arise in one of the remote and hitherto inaccessible regions of Logan county, a new town. It will have a population approximating 2,000. It will have a Y.M.C.A., a community church, modern homes, paved streets, its own water system, electric lights–in fact, all of the modern conveniences. It will be connected by hard road with Logan, Holden and the great world beyond the mountains. At present, it has not even a name, writes Wiatt Smith for the Huntington Herald-Dispatch.

The new town is to arise at operation No. 22 of the Island Creek Coal Company.

Within the next 30 days, J.D. Francis, vice-president of the Island Creek Co., said Tuesday, contracts will be let for the erection of tipples, the building of houses, the paving of streets and the hard surfacing of seven miles of road which will connect the new community with Holden.

Operation No. 22 will represent when completed an additional investment on the part of Island Creek, ranging well beyond a million dollars, perhaps reaching two million, though Mr. Francis refused to hazard an estimate of definite figures.

For a number of months preparations for the opening of a new mine, which will be the largest in southern West Virginia, have been going forward. The two 400 foot shafts which will serve the mine are now nearly complete. The Chesapeake & Ohio is rapidly completing the four mile extension of the Pine creek branch which will provide an outlet for the coal produced. The Island Creek company is completing three miles of siding. Pete Minotti, the contractor, has finished grading the road from Holden to the mine.

By October, it is expected, the road will be surfaced, the town well under way and the great mine in operation. Output at the beginning will be small, as the number of workmen will be necessarily limited until the underground workings have been expanded by the removal of coal. The area to be worked is underlaid, experts say, with 50 or 60 million tons and the mining of the coal will, under normal conditions, require 50 years.

Work at the mine site in advance of the completion of the railroads has been made possible, Mr. Francis explained, by the use of the tram road of the Peytona Lumber company over which many thousands of tons of sand, gravel and supplies have been shipped. The completion of the railroad is awaited for the installation of the bulkier machinery and equipment.

The new rail extension will connect with the Chesapeake & Ohio’s Logan division main lines via Omar. The contact of the operative officials and the workers with the Island Creek center at Holden will be by means of the hard road, the construction of which, in itself represents something like an engineering adventure. For some three miles it follows the ridge that marks the crest of the watershed between the valleys of Guyandotte and Tug Rivers. Then it drops sharply to follow mountain side, hollow and creek valley to the mine operation.

Persons who have traveled the now graded road say that at points on the ridge it affords magnificent views which compare favorably with the most famous in the state. The road was graded and will be hard surfaced entirely at the expense of the coal company, which, in the preparations for its new development has followed the policy adopted many years ago when, upon the opening of its original operations, it established in Holden a mining community which was pointed out as a model throughout the United States.

Island Creek operation No. 22 will be the fifth shaft mine in West Virginia.

The Sunday school at the Christian church is progressing nicely.

Rev. Shrive preached two delightful sermons at the Christian church Sunday. The house was crowded.

Mr. and Mrs. Hassel Perdue and son Maxey were visitors in Logan Monday.

The work on both the state and county roads is progressing finely.

Henry Conley was injured Monday by a freight train. All wish him speedy recovery.

Wonder why Miss Mable Ferrell doesn’t attend Sunday school?

From the Logan Banner of Logan, West Virginia, dated January 5, 1911, we find this editorial:

“The bounteous harvest of holiday business is past, and the so-called dull season is upon our business man. But why a dull season? Some of our business men are going around with a face as long as a shingle, and to see them and hear them talk about dull business reminds one of a man in the last stages of consumption who is resigned to his fate. They appear as though they see bankruptcy staring them in the face. What they need is a little stiffening of the backbone. They need not expect business to be as good as it was through the holiday season, but they should remember that the people of this generation must be fed and clothed and furnished with whatever comforts they can afford, and as long as this is the case, there will be a continued demand for goods and merchandise of all kinds, and business will go on in the same old way. The trouble with the  business men of this city is that they talk down instead of talking up. If the merchant talks dull times, the farmer, the miner, the teamster, the carpenter, the professional man and all others will catch the contagion, and then business will be dull, but if they take an optimistic view of the matter and talk up, the opposite will be the result.

“There is no county in the state, and probably not in the union, that has a more brilliant future than Logan. Logan is today the best town of the state of its size, and it has much to be proud of. The coming year will witness greater development throughout the county than any two previous years, and instead of our business men going around with their lips hung down, they should be right now planning a vigorous campaign to capture their fair share of the prosperity that is sure to abound. Let them rouse themselves from the lethargy which now enshrouds them and be up and doing. Logan is all right. The fault is your own if you do not prosper. It is here for you. If you don’t get it, it will be your own fault. With the railroad going on up the river, and new coal operations opening up within sight of one another, and with our fine quality of coal and timber, nothing but Divine intervention can keep the Guyan Valley from blossoming as the rose. Stop your whining or get off the earth. Take hold and boost or the wheels of progress will mash you into smithereens.

“Logan is all right.

“It may be that you are too slow to keep up.”

Rev. Grover Gartin of Amherstdale was calling on Miss Nola Adkins Sunday.

Mr. and Mrs. Drew Adkins and children of Logan have been visiting the latter’s sister, Mrs. R.L. Powers, of this place.

Miss Blanch Lambert of Toney has been calling on Miss Cora Adkins.

Mrs. Nora Brumfield is teaching a very successful term of school here.

F.B. Adkins, Republican nominee for county clerk, was taken to the Kessler-Hatfield hospital on Monday night with an injured arm.

Miss Sylvia Cyfers of Gill was the guest of Miss Cora Adkins Saturday.

Born to Mr. and Mrs. Watson Adkins a fine boy named Thomas Watson, Jr.

Misses Nannie and Vergia Fry of Barboursville were the weekend guests of Mr. and Mrs. S.H. Adkins and family.

Mr. and Mrs. Herb Adkins have moved into their new home which was completed only a few days ago.

Mr. and Mrs. Dallas McComas of this place were visiting home folks at West Hamlin Saturday and Sunday.

W.M. McCann of Logan was the guest of his daughter, Mrs. Watson Adkins, one day last week.

O.E. Bias, C. & O. operator of this place, is working at McConnell for a few days.

Dr. Taylor of Huntington made an eloquent speech here one day last week.

Bill Adkins and M.C. Farley made a flying trip to Ranger Wednesday.

Clyde Rutherford was seen in Harts this week.

Miss Mae Caines of this place made a trip to Logan one day last week.

Mrs. F.B. Adkins was visiting relatives in Harts Sunday.

Mrs. Fred Adkins and Florence Davis have been calling on Rev. and Mrs. Jas. Porter.

Miss Jessie Brumfield was in Harts Saturday evening.

J.M. Marcum of Ranger, Democratic nominee for county clerk, was in Harts Wednesday.

Dr. J.T. Ferrell of Chapmanville and Miss Rine Browning were seen out car riding one day last week.

Eden Park is an extinct coal town located between Harts and Atenville along the C&O Railroad and Guyandotte River in Lincoln County, WV. Eden Park Coal Company created the town in the early 1920s. What follows is the company’s founding document:

The Hugh Thompson school is progressing nicely under the tutorship of Mr. Bernard Forbes.

Dallas Hollingsworth of Tim’s Fork has left for his home in Bethesda, Ohio.

Peter Dingess was seen looking at a barber shop. Wonder why?

O’Dell Butcher is visiting Chapmanville this week. O’Dell Butcher is the best marble player in Chapmanville.

J.D. Price of this place died in a Huntington hospital last Saturday night. Interment was made in the Godby Branch cemetery on Tuesday.

Mr. Bias, the ladies man, is back on duty with the C. & O. this week.

The Vickers mines are resuming work after being closed down for quite a while.

H.T. Butcher is attending federal court at Charleston this week.

The high school is up to the voters now. The election has been called.

There were five transactions in real estate here last week. Pretty good for a village like this.

W.A. McCloud is planning a trip to Columbus, O., in the next few days.

Prof. L.H. Strader of Philippi was visiting friends here last week.

Now that the election contest is over, the people are expecting great things from Sheriff Hatfield and the county court. No further reason why this district should not have a member to represent us.

Next week I will give a list of all whom are sick, unless the list is too big for publication.

“The railroad contractors have the pile driver at work above here [Barboursville] and are getting ready to construct the trestles along the line,” said the Huntington Advertiser on April 19, 1900.

“Men are working day and night on the river above here [Barboursville] putting in coffer dams for the railroad bridge,” said the Huntington Advertiser on April 21, 1900.

“Contractor Allen has put on a night force above here where the foundation for the piers for the Guyandot Valley Railway bridge are being constructed,” said the Huntington Advertiser on May 9, 1900. “One of the river abutments will be completed tomorrow.” On May 16, it added this: “Work on the trestle over the ‘Big Gut’ just above here [Barboursville] will commence this week. This is the first trestle on the line of the Guyandot Valley requires considerable timber.”

An unknown local correspondent from Chapmanville in Logan County, West Virginia, offered the following items, which the Logan Banner printed on February 26, 1926:

Squire Lowe and Squire Adams were both in town Saturday dealing out justice to all litigants that wanted to be heard.

On last Sunday evening both churches here were visited by a large delegation of Klansmen in full regalia who left a nice donation at each church for the ministers. The ministers said at each place if the Klansmen did not save the country it was gone.

Our genial C. & O. operator here sure does love the fair sex.

S.T. Perry has moved his family from this place to Charleston, his work being on Cabin Creek.

Singing school next Sunday starts at the Holiness Church. Albert Estep will be the teacher. Everybody come.

J.H. Tanner who has been field manager here for the United Fuel Gas Co., for some time has accepted a position as superintendent for the Walka Talka Gas Co., which will necessitate his moving his family to Stollings.

Frank Ballard is still working at his same job.

Kaylor Butcher has been made past Grand Chief of the Sons of Rest.

Uncle Gordon Lilly has returned to town after an absence of several days.

Logan–Now and What It Will Be When Its Destiny Is Fulfilled

Situated here among the “Hills of West Virginia” on the banks of the beautiful Guyan lies the little city of Logan–our home. Time was when a few years ago Logan was a struggling little village trying to pull herself out of the mud and how well she succeeded is left to you, gentle reader, to judge. We now have nicely paved streets, solid and substantial sidewalks, large and commodious business buildings and beautiful homes. Lots that were formerly occupied with frame buildings have been raised and have given way for substantial brick and stone buildings and more going up as fast as can be built with more to come in the future. Our people are liberal, energetic and hospitable and a glad hand and hearty welcome is extended to all newcomers, while the passing stranger is always welcome within our gates. Logan is situated in the very heart of the famous Guyan Valley coalfields and is surrounded with the natural advantages to become sometime in the near future a second Pittsburg. With branch roads leading in every direction, reaching a large number of mines from which pour forth every day an enormous of the famous “Black Diamond” which afford employment to a large army of laborers and positions for many more, with different kinds of business houses in the city requiring the services of a large number of skilled laborers we find our little city progressive in the fullest sense of the word and what Logan is at the present time will be nothing in comparison of the city in the near future. At the present time we boast of three wholesale houses, a great many department stores to supply your every want, and many handsome churches to look after your spiritual  needs, a large number of efficient lawyers to look after your legal affairs, quite a few experienced physicians and surgeons to attend your physical ailments and a large, commodious high school building and a large public school building to look after the education of your children and while we admit that “all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy” we have for your amusement two elegant and comfortable moving picture theatres at which you view the best pictures obtainable while we extend you an invitation to visit our park where you will be entertained with athletic sports. We take time during the strenuous hustle and activity to eat occasionally and we invite you to patronize our large and first class hotels, restaurants and boarding houses where you will be furnished the best food the market affords. If you have any surplus change that is too heavy to carry around in your pocket we have, for your convenience, two large and perfectly safe banks who will gladly receive your deposit or extend any other accommodation consistent with good sound banking.

Take a little time and sit down and rest while we furnish you with the Daily Courier and permit you to digest the very latest news fresh over the wires of the Associated Press. In fact call on us for any favor and we will do our utmost to supply your every need and should you unfortunately get in the way of any of our numerous “jitney buses” we will tenderly convey you to our new, fine hospital, just completed at a cost of $40,000 where your injuries will be treated while you wait.

Logan–Ten Years Hence–Or A Peep Into The Future

My–but can this be Logan? We stand in the cupola of the magnificent stone Court house and gaze up Island creek and as far as the eye can see we see numerous buildings of all description and we are told that they too extend up Main Island creek. We turn and gaze up Dingess Run and we find the same, while we are informed that all the way up the Guyan the buildings are too numerous to count. We look toward Huntington and find that the town has extended down the river while all the vacant lots that formerly specked the town are all now covered with handsome and elegant homes. On every hand we find new coal operations and the hum of the machinery dulls the sound of the hustle and bustle of the street traffic below. Wires leading from the large and power electric station situated on the banks of the river cover the county like giant cobwebs, carrying to various points the giant current for lighting and operating purposes. Coal trains loaded to doubled track road of the C. & O. capacity are moving West while empty cars are coming East. Electric cars are passing and branching off up into the hollows transporting their load of passengers and freight to all the operations while those that desire are accommodated by motor vehicles over the fine macadamized roads leading in all directions but in the end pointing the way back to Logan, the hub of all this activity. We look down to where the C. & O. formerly had a coop called a station and we find a large magnificent passenger station in keeping with the balance of the town. We hear that the former little ramshackle affair called the water system has given way to the march of progress and we learn that a short distance back in the mountain Logan has an enormous storage dam from which her people are supplied with water from the pure mountain streams and the water pressure is sufficient for all purposes. We look below and we find the streets patrolled by uniform police. We see the Logan Band pass by playing a patriotic air. The “newsies” are crying aloud the latest news that has been flashed over the wires and published in an extra edition of the Daily Courier. The mail is being delivered to the doors of all citizens by uniformed carriers at the expense of Uncle Sam. Many of the large number of visitors to the city are taking the cars of the incline railway for a trip to the beautiful fraternal home that crowns the crest of the reservoir mountain, while listen–down the street at full speed comes the organized fire department in charge of the very latest fire fighting apparatus. Surely this is the “Miracle Land.”

‘Tis said that Holden and Omar are only suburbs while Craneco is clamoring for annexation.

–What? Yes–why–sure climbing to the cupola of the Court house and enjoying the balmy breeze of pure mountain air, shaded from the rays of the noon-day sun I fell asleep and being espied by the janitor who being afraid my presence would molest the workings of the town clock has climbed up here and shaking me from my pleasant day-dream has invited me to plant my cute little “tootsies” on terra firma. Some dream. Believe me.
