Page 7. Courtesy of Burl Farley Family Descendant. According to the Logan Banner, June 11, 1903: “Burl Farley, of Hart’s creek, manager for C. Crane & Co., was a business visitor to our town yesterday.” I descend from two of Uncle Burl’s siblings: John Clay Farley and Sarah (Farley) Headley. My great-great-uncle Caleb Frye married his daughter. The old people of my family thought a great deal of Uncle Burl.

Miss Ida Martin has returned home at this place after visiting friends in Lincoln County.

Miss Mettie Raines is teaching a successful school at this place.

M. Tomblin and Allen ______ killed a fine fox, Friday.

The infant child of Tom Mullins was badly burned one day the past week.

Jeff Baisden and Ewell Mullins passed here for Holden Saturday.

Jackson Conley, of Shively, died in the Huntington Hospital one day last week and was buried at the Conley Cemetery, Monday, the 13th.

Peter Mullins, of Hoover, was here on business recently.

Sol Adams, Sr. transacted business at Whirlwind Thursday.

Chas. Spry and Gordon Farley passed here Monday with a fine drove of hogs, en route to Holden.

The infant of John Carter has been very ill for a few days but is slowly recovering.

The infant child of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Jonas died of the whooping cough Tuesday July 4.

L.W. and Steve Mullins are hauling ties from this place to Ferrellsburg for Toney Bros.

Mrs. Bascum Nelson, of Holden visited her parents Mr. and Mrs. W.H. Workman last week.

Elias Workman and Thos. Carter have completed a fine chicken lot for S. Riddle, who, it is said, will go into the chicken business on a large scale.

“Blue Eyed Beauty,” a local correspondent at Whirlwind in Upper Hart, Logan County, West Virginia, offered the following items, which the Logan Democrat printed on Thursday, January 2, 1919:

James Mullins, postmaster at this place, has sufficiently recovered from an attack of influenza as to be able attend to his duties in the office.

“Uncle Jim” Tomblin is spending the winter with relatives in this community.

Everett Adams, Jesse Mullins and Crit Blair have received their discharges from the army and have returned home.

Bill Tomblin was a visitor on Island Creek Christmas day.

Gordon Farley was released from jail in Logan in time to spend Christmas with his family.

Marion Riddle was a business visitor at Yuma Friday.

John Workman, who has been at Eli Workman’s sick with the influenza has returned home much improved in health.

Moses Tomblin has resumed his work for the Island Creek Coal Co. on Mud Fork.
