An unnamed correspondent from Harts in Lincoln County, West Virginia, offered the following items, which the Logan Banner printed on November 27, 1925:

Business seems to be improving at Harts now.

Messrs. Herbert and Watson Adkins made a flying business trip to Ranger Tuesday.

Mrs. F.B. Adkins and sister Miss Harriet Dingess was calling on Misses Pearl and Cora Adkins of this place.

Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Adkins of Man were the week guests of Mr. and Mrs. R.L. Powers of this place.

Miss Jessie Brumfield was seen passing through Harts Tuesday evening.

Miss Cora Adkins spent Sunday and Monday with homefolks here. She is working in Logan.

Mr. Bill Adkins of this place seemed to be enjoying himself all alone Sunday. Never worry, says Billie, She will come.

Mrs. Hollena Ferguson has been ill for a few days, but seems to be improving now.

R.L. Powers has two fine hogs. Hope he soon makes pork.

Mrs. Delphia Dingess and sister were calling on Miss Cora Dingess Sunday.

Bill Adkins was calling on Mr. and Mrs. R.L. Powers Sunday.

Mrs. Vina Adkins and Mrs. Sadie Porter were calling on Mrs. Watson Adkins Sunday.

Combinations: Uncle Gibb and his horse; Pearl and her new dress; Cora and her callers; Sadie and her new sweater; Inez and her bobbed hair; Jessie meeting the tarin; Lewis and his mule; Luther and his truck; Herb and his flat tire; Bill and his yellow breeches; Beatrice and her purple umbrella; Ora and her beaux; Hendrix the mail carrier; Bessie at the pump; Kirt and his water bucket; Watson and his pipe; James and his dog; Aunt Catherine and her curls.

Edward Brumfield is very much pleased since he has been appointed deputy sheriff at Harts.

Hendrix Brumfield is our road supervisor in Harts Creek now.

Justice of the Peace John Gartin was looking after important business in Harts Saturday.

Board of Education of Harts Creek district met at Harts Saturday to hire some more teachers to fill vacancies in the schools. A large crowd of people was present.

Fred Adkins went through Harts on a mule Saturday morning. Wonder what’s the matter?

Misses Jessie and Verna Brumfield spent Friday and Saturday shopping in Huntington.

Herbert Adkins was in Hamlin Monday on business.

John McEldowney of Charleston was the recent guest of Miss Hollena Ferguson at Harts Saturday.

Miss Cora Adkins was the guest of friends at Sand Creek Sunday.

Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Adkins of Man spent several days visiting friends at Harts.

Mrs. Dallas McComas spent Sunday with homefolks at West Hamlin.

Rev. Grover Gartin of Amherstdale was calling on Miss Nola Adkins Sunday.

Mr. and Mrs. Drew Adkins and children of Logan have been visiting the latter’s sister, Mrs. R.L. Powers, of this place.

Miss Blanch Lambert of Toney has been calling on Miss Cora Adkins.

Mrs. Nora Brumfield is teaching a very successful term of school here.

F.B. Adkins, Republican nominee for county clerk, was taken to the Kessler-Hatfield hospital on Monday night with an injured arm.

Miss Sylvia Cyfers of Gill was the guest of Miss Cora Adkins Saturday.

Born to Mr. and Mrs. Watson Adkins a fine boy named Thomas Watson, Jr.

Misses Nannie and Vergia Fry of Barboursville were the weekend guests of Mr. and Mrs. S.H. Adkins and family.

“Two Brothers,” local correspondents from Gill in Lincoln County, West Virginia, offered the following items, which the Lincoln Republican printed on Thursday, May 3, 1923:

Grant Cremeans, of Hamlin, Sherman Linville, of Alkol, Bruce Walls, of Griffithsville, and Bach Linville, of Bernie, were recent business visitors at this place.

Louis Fry caught a fish one day this week that weighed five pounds.

There is a number of cases of measles in this section.

Philip Spery, Hainen Smith and others loaded thirty-two thousand feet of lumber for Philip Hager one day last week. The lumber was shipped to Jas. A. Hughes, West Moreland, W.Va.

Prof. Lee Adkins’ singing school at this place closed Wednesday night. A large crowd heard the instrumental music rendered by Misses Peacha and Cassie Hager, which was enjoyed by all.

The coal traffic on Guyan is becoming enormous. Everything seems to be on the boom in the Guyan Valley.

Wilburn Scragg, of Allen, was a recent Gill visitor.

Brad Gill is recovering from the mumps and is able to be out again.

Miss Hattie Gill has the mumps.

Emery Fry and Dick Aldridge have been hauling telephone poles the past week.

The mining operations at Lattin have been having trouble securing cars the past few weeks.

Hainen Smith has gone to Omar, where he will cook for a mining crew.

Mrs. Tom Mullins and Mrs. Andrew Adkins were shopping at Gill one day the past week.

Clark Collins was a recent business visitor in Huntington.

You can’t fool all the people all the time. Neither can you please half the people half the time.

Democrats can’t forgive prosperity for coming back when they are out.
