Everything is quiet in Banco at present. The traffic cops are getting some rest this week as traffic is not so thick as it was last Sunday.

Billy Lilly and Miss Louise Pardue of this place, Miss Emma Bell and Miss Stevens of Big Ugly all motored to Needmore Sunday to church.

Mr. H.F. Lucas of Elm street motored north last Sunday. Wonder why?

Misses Marea Lucas and Clara Harmon of this place made a business trip to Big Creek last Saturday.

Mr. Journey Ferrell of Banco was the Saturday night guest of his brother Elbert Ferrell of Estep.

Mr. and Mrs. Willie Ellis of Logan attended the basket dinner at Needmore last Sunday.

Mr. Roma Estep and cousin of Hurricane were the Monday night guests of his brother in Banco.

Mr. and Mrs. F.L. Estep and children of this place motored to Hart last Sunday evening.

Among those who were the guests of Mrs. B.R. Lucas Saturday night were: Mr. and Mrs. Egbert Mullins and her boyfriend of Huntington. They also attended the basket meeting at Needmore on Sunday.

Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Ferrell of Huntington were the Saturday and Sunday guests of Aunt Rispa Stone on Ed Stone Branch.

Mr. and Mrs. Ted Hager of Big Creek were the all night guests of Mrs. Jno. Hager at this place last Wednesday.

Wonder why Basil Duty of Spring Dale looked so blue while Miss Ruby McGraw of Logan was in town. Bob was all smile, Basil.

Mr. and Mrs. L.A. Ellis sure did do their bit for the meeting at Needmore last Sunday. They spread two large tables with good eats and invited everybody to partake.

Mr. and Mrs. Brewster of Whitman was visiting their uncle, Mr. John Justice, of Elm street the last weekend.

Mrs. C.E. Justice’s grandmother of Fallsburg, Kentucky, has returned home after an extended visit on Elm street.

An unknown correspondent from Banco on Big Creek in Logan County, West Virginia, offered the following items, which the Logan Banner printed on August 6, 1926:

Banco is getting livelier every day. One can look out just any time and see an ice truck, lumber truck or furniture truck. We are sure glad to see our town so rapidly improving.

Charles Garrett of Curry, our ice man, will turn a cold shoulder on all the girls on Monday, Wednesday and Friday of each week.

Miss Pearl Hager of this place is spending the week with her brother, C.L. Hager at Stone Branch.

Misses Clara Harmon and Marea Lucas were the Sunday evening guests of Mr. and Mrs. J.B. Lucas.

Jesse Justice of Elm Street was calling on his old girl at Manila last Sunday.

Charlie Stone, small son and daughter and Ruby May, Bill Butcher, Ruby Sanders and Tiny Chafin motored to Banco Wednesday evening.

H.F. Lucas and sister Marea of Elm Street motored to Manila last Saturday, attended church and were the all-night guests of their aunt, Mary Jane Drake.

J.M. Harmon and W.J. Vance of Peach Creek motored through Banco last Monday.

F.L. Estep of this place made a business call in Estep last Wednesday evening.

Mr. and Mrs. Son Ball and baby of Hewitt have been visiting Mrs. Ball’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Pardee, at this place this week.

Aunt Rispa Stone has returned to her home on Ed Stone Branch. She has been absent from this place for some time. Her entire family and all her friends were glad to see her back again.

Mrs. Etta Thomas and daughter Hazel of Thomas Circle were Wednesday night guests of Mrs. Thomas’ daughter, Mrs. Grayce McComas, at Daisy.

Mr. and Mrs. J.B. Lucas motored to Chapmanville last Tuesday where they attended the primary.

Wonder what has become of Basil Duty? We haven’t seen him in town for two or three days. There must be some attraction on Lynn Street.

Mr. and Mrs. Jno. Queen of Logan motored through Banco last Sunday enroute to Needmore.

Here we come with a rush and a bound,

No better news from Banco can be found.

Everybody around Banco is lively. A large crowd attended the singing sat this place Sunday.

H.F. Lucas and mother and little sister Jeanne motored to Nellis, W.Va., last Saturday to visit Mrs. Lucas’ brother who is in the Charleston hospital.

Mr. and Mrs. Crissie Simmons and children of Glasgow are the guests of Mrs. Simmons’ parents, Mr. and Mrs. W.H. Perry of Vicker’s Branch.

Mrs. Rosa Ellis of Needmore left for Logan Sunday where she spent the Fourth.

Mrs. Ethel Ferrell and daughter of Estep were visiting Mrs. Jno. Hager on Ed Stone Branch last Sunday.

Basil Duty spent Saturday and Sunday in Logan.

John Vance has purchased a new model Ford.

Mr. and Mrs. Okey Justice and little daughter Alice are visiting Mr. Justice’s parents on Elm street this week.

Mr. and Mrs. Robert Varney and children of Manbar were calling on Mr. and Mrs. Charles Duty at Spring Dale Saturday and Sunday.

Wonder what has become of Mr. Bias of Chapmanville that we never see him anymore?

Miss Clara Harmon spent Sunday on Elm street with Miss Marea Lucas. They enjoyed the evening playing music.

Mrs. Levi Duty of Squirrel Branch was visiting her sister Mrs. Samuel Pardue and other relatives at this place Sunday.

Clara Harmon was the Sunday night guest of her sister, Mrs. Myrtle Lucas.

H.F. Lucas and little sister Jean Eleanor were out joy riding Sunday afternoon.

Mrs. Ethel Ferrell and children of Estep and Mrs. Mary Hager of Banco were visiting Mrs. Hager’s mother, Aunt Rispa Stone on Big Ugly last Tuesday and Wednesday.

Master Willard Varney of Estep was the Saturday night guest of Mr. and Mrs. Ted Hager at this place.

Mrs. C.C. Varney and daughter Madeline, Mrs. J.B. Lucas and Miss Marea Lucas were the dinner guests of Mrs. D.H. Harmon Sunday.

The girls of Spring Dale and Banco can now don their traveling attire as Robert Gullet has bought a new 5-passenger automobile.

H.F. Lucas motored to the North Pole Sunday evening.

Rev. White will preach at the Ed Stone Branch next Saturday and Sunday. Everybody invited.

Here we are back again into our friendly circle, The Banner family, with a few items from the progressive little town of Banco.

Mr. and Mrs. J.A. Stone and Mrs. Lizzie Perdue and daughter, Louise, of Banco motored to West Hamlin last Sunday and all reported a very enjoyable day.

Mr. and Mrs. Robert Baisden and children of Needmore were the guests of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Duty of Spring Dale last Tuesday.

B.R. Lucas and son Freddie of this place attended church at Big Creek last night.

Mrs. Charles C. Varney and daughter Madeline were the all day guests of Mrs. J.B. Lucas at Pumpkin Center last Wednesday.

Miss Charlotte Chapman of Estep was a business caller in Banco last week.

Wonder who the girl was at Big Creek last week that laid her arm around a Banco Boy’s neck for a strawberry?

Miss Marea Lucas was calling on Misses Mattie and Ollie Varney last Sunday afternoon.

Wonder how Basil Duty would like another trip to Big Ugly? Why not call a taxi next time, Basil?

Okey Justice of Whitman was calling on homefolks on Elm street last Sunday.

Wonder if Frank Chapman and Jesse Justice are having much success at Spring Dale? We wish them the best of luck. Be careful boys and don’t go any farther than the mill.

We saw in last week’s letter from Shegon an item which read like this: “Fred Woolum sure does look sweet in his new straw stack.” We have a boy in our town whose name is Fred Woolum and he also has a new straw stack. Just ask the girls of Sutton. They will tell the rest.

Mr. and Mrs. Johnnie Hager of this place was a business caller in Big Creek last week.

Miss Millie Lancaster, teacher of the Banco school left for her home in Martinsburg, W.Va., last week. She will be missed by her many friends.

Mrs. L.A. Ellis of Needmore is visiting friends and relatives in Logan this week.

H.F. Lucas and father motored to Big Creek last Sunday.

Miss Mary Thomas of Estep was a caller in Banco last Tuesday night.

“Just a little sympathy for a boy whom we know well

Hello, folks! Here we are again with a few items from our thriving little town.

Bernice Hunter returned from Hot Springs, Arkansas, last Monday and was the all night guest of his aunt, Mrs. John Hager, of Banco; then returned to his home on Big Ugly.

Mrs. V.P. Conley and little son, Joe, of Banco addition were calling on Mrs. D.H. Harmon of this place last Wednesday morning.

Hassel Vance is still driving the big team. Hauling from Spring Dale to Big Creek. Hassel doesn’t stop in Spring Dale very long even if there is some pretty girls in that town.

Wonder why Peter Pinder never calls in Banco any  more? We sure miss the great stories he used to tell us. We imagine he is telling the stories to his girl in Thomas’ Circle nowadays.

Mr. and Mrs. Jno. Vance’s small son, Junior, is still ill with measles, we are sorry to say.

Wonder when H.T. Lucas is going to make a call in Spring Dale? The roads are better to Spring Dale for joy riding, H.T., than they are to North Pole.

Mrs. Mary Hager and daughter Kathleen were calling on Mrs. D.H. Harmon last Sunday evening.

Mr. and Mrs. J.A. Stone were calling on their daughter, Mrs. Jennie Thomas, at Estep last Sunday afternoon.

Miss Marea Lucas was the afternoon guest of Misses Ollie and Mattie Varney last Sunday.

Jesse Justice sure does like the little town of Estep, especially while his old girl from Slabtown is there.

Miss Susie Thomas and little brother, Virgil, of Estep have been visiting their grandparents at this place for a few days.

H.F. Lucas and his father were out trying H.F.’s Ford last Monday evening.

Mr. Joseph A. Varney and daughter Nella were business callers in Banco last Tuesday evening.

Misses Zella and Charlotte Chapman of Estep were shopping in Banco last Saturday.

Mrs. L.A. Ellis who is making her home in Needmore for a short while was visiting Mrs. Nancy Duty at Stone Branch last week.

We are sorry to say but the doll of Needmore has forsaken all the girls of their town, also the girls of Banco, as he left for Spencer, W.Va., one day last week.

Basil Duty of Spring Dale was calling in Estep last Sunday. Look out, boys. Some of you are going to lose your L.F.O. Basil means business. He’s looking for his affinity.

There will be church at the Banco school house next Saturday night and Sunday. Everybody is invited.

Well here we come with some more Banco news.

Everything is looking lively around Thomas Circle these days.

Gid Toney and Bessie Isaac were out walking Sunday.

Miss Onna Varney was seen at the Thomas store house Sunday. Wonder who she was looking for? Ask Bob. He will tell you.

Bob Jarrells and Bert Mullins were walking around the lonesome road Sunday.

Gardner Baisden and Don Estep were sure enjoying themselves Sunday evening.

Mr. and Mrs. Joseph A. Varney were visiting relatives here Sunday.

Tom Duty of this place is seriously ill at this writing but is still walking the lonesome road.

Willie Thomas was a business caller in Banco last Saturday.

James Duty, who has been on the sick list, is improving nicely.

Charley Varney says that Mr. A.J. Thomas of Big Creek has sure supplied this place with wharf rats.

There were several boys of East End who enjoyed themselves eating boiled eggs at Thomas’ Circle Sunday.

Gardner Baisden seemed to be all smiles Sunday. Wonder what he was pleased over? Ask Hazel. She may tell you.

Mack Varney of Needmore was the guest of Bob Justice.

P.D. Bradbury and Oley Adkins were loading out telegraph poles this week.

Mrs. Vick Thomas of Big Creek has been making soap this week for her daughter, Brooke. Brooke has been on the sick list this week. Hope she will soon recover.

Wonder who Nella Varney was looking for Sunday? She was seen up on the hill.

Hope Tom Duty will get him a sweetie soon. He seems to be downhearted.

J.A. Thomas of Estep is getting ready to put up a broom factory. I hope he will succeed nicely.

J.A. Duty and brother R.F. Duty are farming heavy this year. They have about twenty acres of corn planted and expect to grow about twelve acres of tobacco. R.F. says he can’t work any this summer and he is going to give his job to J.A.

Etta Thomas of Thomas Circle has been on the sick list the last few days.

Carl Varney was visiting home folks.

An unknown local correspondent from Banco in Logan County, West Virginia, offered the following items, which the Logan Banner printed on May 7, 1926:

Some of the girls and boys of our town have taken a notion to jump into double harness and trot along through life as calm and placid as a mud puddle.

Miss Ida Thomas of Estep and Mr. Ted Hager of this place were united in the Holy bonds of matrimony last Saturday, May 1st, at the home of Mr. Hager’s sister, Mrs. Den Gillenwater, near the mouth of Squirrel Branch. The wedding was a beautiful affair. Rev. White of Henlawson gave a nice talk after which he solemnized the wedding vows. The guests consisted mostly of the bride and groom. The table was set with a very nice diaper. White flowers being the centerpiece.

Miss Gay Pettit of Big Creek was the guest of Miss Clara Harmon at this place last Saturday night and Sunday.

Mrs. Rosa Ellis of Needmore left for Logan last Sunday where she will visit with her sons Charles and Willie Ellis for a few days.

Wonder why Jesse Justice looked so bashful last Sunday? Don’t be bashful, Jess. She was only teasing you.

Mr. and Mrs. J.A. Stone were the guests of their daughter, Mrs. J.A. Thomas, at Estep last Sunday.

Wonder how the ‘Doll’ of Needmore is getting along hauling telephone poles? Stay with it, Roy, and you’ll get done some day.

There must be some attraction around Banco and Spring Dale, as Gardner Baisden has been making regular calls. His excuse is ‘to read the Logan Banner.’ Call again, Peanut, you’re always welcome.

Among those who were calling on Mr. and Mrs. J.B. Lucas last Sunday were: Mr. and Mrs. C.E. Adkins, Misses Gay Pettit, Clara Harmon, Lucille Vickers, and Mr. Jesse Justice.

Wonder if Mr. and Mrs. C.E. Justice are having much success raising chickens?

Mrs. Amanda Justice was the Monday night guest of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Duty.

Misses Hazel Thomas and Nella Varney were callers in Banco last Saturday evening.

Basil Duty of Spring Dale made a flying trip to Curry last week. Wonder what the attraction is up there?

Mrs. B.B. Lucas and daughters Maria and ____ were calling on Mrs. Maggie Gillam last Sunday afternoon.

Mrs. J.M. Hager and Mrs. D.H. Harmon of this place were the all day guests of Mr. and Mrs. B.R. Lucas of Elm street one day last week. They had a very enjoyable day as they were entertained with good soul-stirring hymns on the piano and Victrola, after which they were served with a real good dinner.

Among those who were out kodaking last Sunday afternoon were Mr. and Mrs. J.B. Lucas, Misses Gay Pettit, Clara Harmon, Lucille Vickers, and Maria Lucas.

A.S. Harmon of Barboursville and Mr. W.W. Lucas of Big Creek were the dinner guest of Mr. and Mrs. D.H. Harmon of this place last Sunday.

Mr. H.F. Lucas of this place attended church at Manila last Sunday and listened to a wonderful sermon delivered by Rev. Reedy of Logan, after which he made a grand confession and was baptized last Sunday afternoon.

Mr. and Mrs. Ted Hager and Miss Pearl Hager were pleasant callers in Banco last Tuesday night.

An unknown local correspondent from Estep in Logan County, West Virginia, offered the following items, which the Logan Banner printed on April 30, 1926:

Mrs. Eliza Pauley, honored and aged lady of East End, was visiting her nephew Mr. Robert Chapman, of this place Saturday and Sunday.

Frank Chapman of Estep was a pleasant caller in East End last Saturday and Sunday. Wonder if Frank saw his sweetie up there?

Frond Estep of Ellis Fork made a business trip to the city of Big Creek one day last week.

Two of the oldest men in our vicinity, Uncle Dyke Garrett of Curry and Mr. William Berry of Estep, attended the funeral services of Mr. Joe Vickers at the family burial ground at Needmore last Wednesday April 28th.

Wonder if Mr. Arnold Thomas of Estep ever visited a “girlie” in town who is ill with measles. Better go to see her Arnold. Chances are she’ll forget you.

Mrs. Frank Harmon and daughter Mrs. William Pauley of East End attended the funeral services at Needmore last Wednesday morning.

Miss Clara Harmon of Banco and Mrs. Mary Hager and Mrs. J.A. Stone, also of Banco, were calling on Mrs. Rosa Ellis of Needmore one day last week.

Mrs. Charlotte Chapman of this place left for Logan last MOnday where she will stay with her sister Mrs. C.C. Richardson for a few weeks.

It is rumored there are going to be some weddings in Banco, but they haven’t anything on this town for we are expecting to hear the chimes of wedding bells here soon.

The sheiks of our town are wandering idly. Wonder if they are looking for dears?

The population of our town is steadily increasing. Mr. Enoch Workman of Stone Branch moved into East End last Friday.

Mrs. Ethel Ferrell of Estep and Mrs. Minnie Queen of Needmore were on a shopping tour in Banco and Big Creek one day last week.

The folks at this place are very busy at present caring for the sick, gardening, and farming. All the patients who have had measles are improving, we are glad to say.

Wonder why Frank Chapman spends every Sunday afternoon in the East End? We imagine there is some game up there. It must be “Dears.”

Miss Mary Thomas of this place left for Turtle Creek one day last week where she will spend a few days with Mr. and Mrs. Adlia Barker.

We are informed that Mr. and Mrs. Ola Adkins have moved back into the little town of Needmore. Mrs. Adkins’ work will consist mostly of farming for the summer.

Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Thomas of Estep were the guests of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Thomas, also of Estep, last Sunday afternoon.

Master Otis Varney, son of Ephraim Varney (deceased) of Thomas Circle, is reported to be very ill of measles this week.

Maxie Madeline Small, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Varney of Thomas Circle, is ill with measles this week, we are informed.

The South Penn Oil and Gas Company is making fine progress drilling for oil and gas at the head of Ellis Fork near this place.

Mr. Gartner Baisden and one of his girlfriends of Ellis Fork were out horseback riding last Saturday afternoon. Wonder if his girl at Logan will care?

J.W. Thomas of this place was the guest of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Pauley of East End last Sunday afternoon.

Frank Chapman of Estep was a business visitor in Logan last Monday.
