An unknown correspondent from Whirlwind in Logan County, West Virginia, offered the following items, which the Logan Banner printed on January 18, 1927:

The Trace Sunday school is progressing nicely. A large crowd attended Sunday.

Anthony Adams of Logan was visiting relatives on Harts Creek Saturday.

Viola Adams, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Johnnie Adams, died of appendicitis Monday. Funeral services were held at the Mullins cemetery.

Burl Adams of Chapmanville was visiting relatives on Harts Creek Sunday.

Cole Baisden made a business trip to Logan Monday.

Rev. I.M. Nelson and R.G. Short are going to hold a revival at the Christian church on Trace, beginning January 16.

R.L. Dingess of Whirlwind spent Saturday with his parents at Queen’s Ridge.

Some of the daily acts: Grover and his dogs; Phillip collecting the news; Charley and his kodak; Pearly looking for Burl; Carl cold trailing and Clinton carrying the news.

Howard Adams was seen going through town Saturday. Guess he was out on business.

Elias Workman has been on the sick list for the past two weeks.

Edward Hensley, the prohibitionist, and Frank Adams, the constable, are constantly on their duty trying to catch all the moonshiners at present.

Anthony Adams of Logan visited relatives at Whirlwind Sunday.

Mr. and Mrs. R.L. Dingess of Whirlwind spent Sunday with their parents at Queens Ridge.

A large crowd visited the Hoover school house Sunday expecting to hear a sermon delivered by Rev. Chas. Curry, but were badly disappointed as Curry was not present.

Daniel McCloud has postponed his singing school, as there are several pupils suffering with smallpox at the place where the school is being taught.

T.H. Adams went through town with a basket in his hand Sunday.

Burl Mullins of Buck Creek spent Sunday on Hoover with his sweetie.

Wilburn Mullins of Mud Fork is still visiting Hoover regularly.

Charley Mullins made a business trip to Twelve Pole Monday.

Mr. and Mrs. Ewell Mullins made a flying trip to Washington, D.C., last week. Guess they had a message for the President.

Carl Adams is still cold trailing. Carl says he is going to stop if the trail doesn’t get warmer.

Isom Workman was calling on Miss Lucy B. Mullins Sunday.

Miss Lucy B. McCloud of Hoover was visiting her aunt, Mrs. Lora B. Martin, of Queens Ridge Sunday.

All the boys and girls of Hoover attended the spelling match at the Hoover school Friday and all reported a nice time.

Ireland Mullins was calling on friends at Mollie Robinson’s Saturday evening.

Mason Adams was the guest of Florence Adams Saturday.

Lucy McCloud was visiting her grandmother at Queen’s Ridge Wednesday.

Alice McCloud was looking sad Friday. Cheer up, Alice. I hope Si won’t forsake you.

Wonder who the three good-looking boys were leaving the left fork of Hoover late Sunday evening.

Look out, boys. Gillis Adams is coming back to Hoover Saturday.

Charley Mullins and George McCloud, Jr. were hauling lumber from Dingess Saturday. Boys, are you going again next Saturday?

May Robinson looked so sad Sunday. Cheer up, May. Winter sure is here.

Howard Adams is looking lonely since his girl went to Twelve Pole to spend a few weeks.

Carl Adams is right on his job this week. Stay right with it, Carl. Sunday comes but once a week.

Gillis Adams of Monaville spent the weekend with homefolks of Hoover.

Charley Evans of Mud Fork attended church here Sunday.

Chas. Brumfield passed through our vicinity last week attending business affairs.

Mr. and Mrs. Robert Brumfield made a business trip to Logan Saturday.

Edward Brumfield of Hamlin spent the week end with home folks at Harts.

Mrs. Ward Brumfield, of Harts was thrown by a horse while out horse back riding and was seriously injured. She is slowly recovering.

R.M. Sovine, of Huntington, was calling on Miss Jessie Brumfield of Harts, Friday evening.

John W. Halley, of Hamlin and Miss Cora Adkins of Harts were seen out car riding Saturday.

Mrs. Winifred Enochs and children of Ranger, were the guests of Mrs. Chas. Brumfield at Harts, Friday evening.

Fisher Adkins of Harts made a flying trip to Huntington Saturday.

Chas. Brumfield of Harts made a business trip to Gill Saturday afternoon.

Hendricks Brumfield was in town today.

Jessie Brumfield of Rector spent the week end with homefolks at Harts.

Mrs. Lace Brumfield of Queens Ridge was shopping in Logan, Friday.

The recent dry weather is doing considerable damage to crops in this section.

Peter Mullins and Jno. Carter were business callers at Whirlwind on day recently.

“Bull Mooser,” a local correspondent from Queens Ridge in Lincoln County, West Virginia, offered the following items, which the Lincoln Republican printed on Thursday, October 9, 1913:

John Workman, Sr., is in very poor health. Dr. York, of Louisa, Ky., is the attending physician.

Isaac Workman, Jr., is recovering from a severe illness.

Squire Vance is on a business trip to Ferrellsburg this week.

Mr. and Mrs. J.J. Maynard were visiting Arnold Perry’s Sunday.

Joseph Maynard has been quite busy making repairs on the Maynard school house.

H.F. Workman is getting in his winter’s supply of coal.

W.F. Workman is attending the Association at Stone Coal, West Virginia.

Mr. and Mrs. Charley Gray, of Columbus, Ohio, are visiting relatives and friends here.

Ivy Bias, telegraph operator at Wilsondale, W.Va., went to Williamson to a hospital to have his right leg amputated.

Mrs. Isaac Workman is paying her daughter, Mrs. Ellen Carter who resides at Rolfe, a visit.

“Bull Mooser,” a local correspondent from Queens Ridge in Lincoln County, West Virginia, offered the following items, which the Lincoln Republican printed on Thursday, October 2, 1913:

We have been having some fine rains in this vicinity, which were badly needed.

Joseph Maynard, one of our merchants is on a trip to Huntington this week to buy his winter line of merchandise.

Jack Frost was on a visit to this vicinity last week.

The mail will be carried from Maynard to Wilsondale beginning Monday.

John Workman, Sr. is very ill with typhoid fever.

Squirrels are plentiful in this vicinity. The boys are killing loads of them.

Isaac Workman, Jr. continues very sick. There is very little hope for his recovery.

Cattle and hogs are scarce and high priced in this community.

Ross Fowler and Ward Brumfield were business callers at Squire Vance’s Monday.

Wiley Williamson, of Holden, was visiting friends here Saturday and Sunday.

Willie Browning and Jas. Aldridge went coon hunting Saturday night. The boys came back discouraged — didn’t catch any coons, but caught 5 ‘possums.

“Blue Eyed Beauty,” a local correspondent at Whirlwind in Upper Hart, Logan County, West Virginia, offered the following items, which the Logan Democrat printed on Thursday, March 6, 1919:

The Rev. Sam Adkins preached at the Hall school house on Twelvepole Sunday.

Mon Bryant of Queensridge visited with relatives in this community the first of the week.

Wm. Carter quit work on Island Creek Friday on account of ill health.

The Revs. Chas. Curry and George Hensley held religious services Sunday at Brown’s Run.

Samuel Tomblin drove a fine hog to Island Creek and sold it Wednesday.

Crockett Farley hauled a load of merchandise for James Mullins Wednesday.

Mrs. Dicie Bryant and _____ were both on the sick list for a few days this week.

John T. Workman, mention of whose illness was made in our last week’s issue, was removed from his home on Buckfork to the home of his father-in-law, Luke Curry.
