Mr. James Baisden and Miss Pearly Ornton were out walking Sunday.

Welthy and Rosie Mullins were seen horse back riding Monday afternoon.

Misses Almeda Baisden, Roxie and Welthy Mullins went to Hearts to church Sunday morning.

Mr. and Mrs. H.L. Mullins gave an apple peeling Thursday night. All reported a good time.

What’s “Black eyes” so downhearted about?

Bruce Conley and his little brother were the guests at Roxie’s home Saturday.

The Mount Erie Sunday School will go to Pumpkin Center for the first Sunday in September on a picnic.

Roxie Mullins was Mr. and Mrs. Ben Browning’s guest recently.

Van Mullins, who has been on the sick list for some time, is recovering fast.

Albert Mullins was seen passing through here whistling.

Welthy Mullins has a new Beau. He’s rather cute, don’t you think so?

Banco is getting to be a lively place. Traffic is getting to be so thick we will soon have to employ a traffic cop for every corner.

Jesse Harmon and W.J. Vance of Peach Creek and two girlfriends motored through Banco last Sunday afternoon.

B.R. Lucas and son Fred motored to Big Creek last Wednesday evening to attend a protracted meeting.

D.H. Harmon of this place was loading bank ties at Big Creek last week while his employees did the sawing at Spring Dale.

Mr. and Mrs. J.A. Stone and grandchildren of this place were weekend guests of Mr. and Mrs. W.T. Stone at Blair.

H.F. Lucas and sister Marea of Banco motored to Estep last Sunday evening after the singing teacher bade us all goodbye.

Jesse Justice has obtained a new job at Spring Dale.

Wonder why Basil Duty has the blues so bad these days? Don’t worry, Basil. Ruby and Fannie will soon return.

Rev. White of Henlawson delivered a delightful sermon in Banco last Sunday morning. A large audience attended. Those taking a part in the evening service were Rev. Gillenwater of Big Ugly, Rev. Elkins of Banco, and Rev. Vickers of Chapmanville.

Mrs. J.W. Miller of Big Ugly attended church at Banco Sunday and was the dinner guest of her brother, Howard Vanatter.

J.M. Harmon and Mrs. J.W. Harmon of Big Creek motored to Banco Sunday.

Earl Justice of Whitman was calling on homefolks on Elm Street Sunday.

Misses Eva Ellis of Ellis Fork and Edith Chapman attended church in Banco Saturday night and Sunday, and were all night guests of Mrs. E.C. Varney of Elm Street.

Misses Hazel Thomas and Nella Varney of Thomas Circle attended church at Banco Sunday and were the dinner guests of Miss Marea Lucas.

A singing service was given at the Banco school house last Sunday by Prof. Albert Estep of Limestone. A very good crowd attended. All reported an enjoyable day.

Mr. R.L. Lucas and daughter Beatrice of Pumpkin Center attended singing at Banco last Sunday.

Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Ferrell and little son Johnnie returned to their home at Huntington last Sunday by motor after a few days visit with Mrs. Ferrell’s parents on Big Ugly.

Wonder why Jesse Justice was looking so downhearted last Sunday evening? She’s gone, Jess, but she’ll come back.

Misses Pearl Hager and Opal Workman were the evening guest of Miss Maria Lucas last Sunday.

Fred Lowe of Kleenkoal who has been ill for a few weeks has returned to his home on Ed Stone Branch near Banco.

Mrs. Robert Chapman of Estep was a business caller in Banco last Tuesday.

Mr. Earl Justice of Whitman attended the singing school at Banco last Sunday and was also the guest of homefolks on Elm street.

Mrs. Polly Ellis of Big Creek, formerly of Estep, is visiting with her brother D.H. Harmon at Banco this week.

Frank Chapman returnred from Hamlin to his home in Estep via Banco last Monday. There must be some attractions up there, such as the beautiful milkmaids, etc.

Mr. and Mrs. J.A. Stone and Mrs. Lizzie Perdue and daughter, Louise, of Banco motored to West Hamlin last Sunday and all reported a very enjoyable day.

Mr. and Mrs. Robert Baisden and children of Needmore were the guests of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Duty of Spring Dale last Tuesday.

B.R. Lucas and son Freddie of this place attended church at Big Creek last night.

Mrs. Charles C. Varney and daughter Madeline were the all day guests of Mrs. J.B. Lucas at Pumpkin Center last Wednesday.

Miss Charlotte Chapman of Estep was a business caller in Banco last week.

Wonder who the girl was at Big Creek last week that laid her arm around a Banco Boy’s neck for a strawberry?

Okey Justice of Whitman was calling on homefolks on Elm street last Sunday.

Wonder if Frank Chapman and Jesse Justice are having much success at Spring Dale? We wish them the best of luck. Be careful boys and don’t go any farther than the mill.

We saw in last week’s letter from Shegon an item which read like this: “Fred Woolum sure does look sweet in his new straw stack.” We have a boy in our town whose name is Fred Woolum and he also has a new straw stack. Just ask the girls of Sutton. They will tell the rest.

Mr. and Mrs. Johnnie Hager of this place was a business caller in Big Creek last week.

Miss Millie Lancaster, teacher of the Banco school left for her home in Martinsburg, W.Va., last week. She will be missed by her many friends.

Mrs. L.A. Ellis of Needmore is visiting friends and relatives in Logan this week.

Miss Mary Thomas of Estep was a caller in Banco last Tuesday night.

Rev. White of Henlawson delivered a very interesting sermon at the school house at Thomas’ Circle last Sunday morning. A good crowd from adjoining towns attended. Among those who attended church at Thomas’ Circle from Banco were: Mr. and Mrs. B.E. Ferrell, Mr. and Mrs. J.M. Hager, Clara Harmon, Mr. B.R. Lucas and son H.F. Lucas.

Jesse Justice of Elm street went to Logan last Wednesday to have some dental work done. Jesse will go back to Springdale with a smile.

Mr. A.S. Lowe was a business caller in Banco last Wednesday.

Messrs. J.A. Stone and Samuel Pardue motored to Huntington last Sunday and arrived back in Banco Monday.

Clara Harmon of this place was the all night guest of Mr. and Mrs. J.B. Lucas last Sunday.

Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Thomas of Estep were shoppers in Banco last Tuesday.

An unknown local correspondent from Banco in Logan County, West Virginia, offered the following items, which the Logan Banner printed on April 30, 1926:

Everything is quiet in Banco at present, but we don’t expect it to be so very long as we will soon hear the chimes of wedding bells and the wedding procession will throng our town.

J.W. Thomas of Estep was the all day guest of his sister, Mrs. D.H. Harmon, of this place, one day last week.

James A. Stone of this place, while out car riding one day last week, found it necessary to crank his car when he received a Ford kick which was very painful and broke one bone of his right arm.

Mr. and Mrs. Roy Jeffrey and children of Chapmanville were the weekend guests of Mr. Jeffrey’s mother, Mrs. Minta Jeffrey, near here.

Wonder what has become of the “dear hunter” at Estep?

Miss Maria Lucas has returned to her home at Banco after about six weeks in Chapmanville with an illness of measles and pneumonia. We sure are glad to have her back in Banco once more.

Misses Charlotte and Zella Chapman passed through Banco last Monday en route to Logan.

Victor Toney of Chapmanville was the guest of his uncle, Mr. B.B. Lucas, of Elm Street last Monday.

Miss Opal Workman of this place is visiting at Pumpkin Center this week.

Misses Ida Thomas, Pearl Hagen, and Ted Hager were calling on Miss Thomas’ parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Thomas, at Estep last Sunday.

Hassel Vance has purchased a fine pair of horses. He sure can take the girls out joyriding now.

Miss Minerva Vannatter of Dollie was shopping in Banco and Big Creek last Tuesday.

Wonder whose big car that was which went through Banco last week and attracted the attention of all the girls?

Joseph Vickers, formerly of Banco, after a long illness, died at the home of his oldest daughter, Mrs. Walton Garrett of Curry, W.Va., April 19th. His remains will be brought back to the Vickers cemetery on North Fork near his old home for interment.

Mr. and Mrs. C.A. Justice of Whitman were calling on relatives on Elm street last Sunday.

Robert Varney and little son Junior of Manbar were the guests of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Duty of Spring Dale last Sunday.

Earl Justice has obtained a new job at Whitman.

The wedding vows were solemnized between Mr. Okey Justice of Banco and Miss Nola Drake of Manila last Sunday evening. Rev. Elijah Pauley officiating.

Rev. White of Henlawson was the pleasant guest of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Varney of Thomas’ Circle last Saturday night and Sunday. Everyone was expecting a good meeting at Thomas’ Circle last Sunday. On account of the epidemic of measles.

We wonder why the Sheik was walking the streets Sunday and Monday wearing the snappy tailored suit.

Mrs. Etta Thomas and daughter Hazel of Thomas Circle were visiting the former’s father Mr. Joseph Vickers last Sunday and Monday, who is very ill at this writing. Mr. Vickers is making his home at present with his daughter, Mrs. Walton Garrett of Curry.

Mrs. R.L. Lucas and children of Pumpkin Center were the pleasant guests of friends and relatives on Elm Street last Saturday, Sunday, and Monday.

Miss Ida Thomas of Maubar was the Sunday guest of Mrs. Ella Gillenwater.

Rev. Hugh Duty of Coal River was visiting his aged mother Friday who is seriously ill at the home of his brother, Charles Duty, of Spring Dale.

Miss Gay Pettit of Braxton county, former teacher of Banco schools, but who is teaching in the Daisy school, was shopping in Logan last Saturday.

Master Berthold Thomas of Estep is visiting his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. J.A. Stone, of this place this week.

Mr. Robert Gullett, Misses Luoesa Pardue, and Ethel Gullett were out joy riding last Sunday.

E.C. Varney and Jesse Justice of Manbar were calling on homefolks near here Sunday.

Mrs. J.Q. Adams of Big Creek was the all night guest of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henley Hager, at Manila last Monday.

Miss Minerva Vannatter of this place left for her home on Big Ugly last Tuesday.

Wonder why W.H. Vickers never visits the Banco school anymore? Call again, Willie. You’re always welcome.

H.F. Lucas of Elm street entertained some of the young folks last Friday night in Banco, with a lot of interesting quaint and picturesque views of Hawaii’s fields of rice, pineapples and bananas, and many other interesting scenes of Hawaii.

Wonder why Ted Hager went to meet the down train last Sunday morning? We imagine it was to meet his affinity.

We are expecting to hear the clang of wedding bells in our town once more. It has been so long since there has been a wedding at this place it would be a pleasant surprise to every one.

Messrs. J.M. Hager and J.A. Stone were callers at Spring Dale on Sunday afternoon.

Misses Ida and May Thomas and Anna Ferrell of Estep were shopping in Banco last Monday.

Mr. Journey Ferrell and Miss Pearl Hager of this place were visiting Mrs. Ella Gillenwater last Sunday.

Mrs. Martha Stone and Mrs. Mary Hager both of this place were visiting Aunt Mary Ann Duty last Sunday afternoon. Aunt Mary Ann is making her home with her son Charley at Spring Dale.

Mr. and Mrs. Bernie Barker and children and Mrs. Erther Hill of Estep passed through Banco last Saturday enroute for Big Creek.

Mrs. C.E. Mitchell of Big Creek was the Sunday night guest of Mrs. Mary Hager.

Robert E. Lee Thomas of Big Creek has obtained a job of driving a mule team for the South Penn Oil & Gas Co. at $118 per month and all expenses pay. Stay with it, Bobby!

Ground hog weather is over.

Mr. H.F. Lucas arrived in Banco, his old home town, last Friday and was given a hearty welcome by many of his old pals at this place.

“Violet,” a local correspondent from Toney in Lincoln County, West Virginia, offered the following items, which the Lincoln Republican printed on Thursday, May 18, 1911:

We are having some very pleasant weather and our farmers are busy planting corn.

The men who have been timbering in this vicinity, floated their timber to market last week and received very low prices.

The Sunday School recently organized at this place, was attended by a large crowd on last Sunday. We hope all the parents will get interested and bring the little ones out next Sunday.

Mr. Messinger, Deputy Assessor, was calling on the citizens in this section last week.

Watson Lucas is hauling logs for the construction of the new Railroad up Big Ugly Creek.

Miss Minnie, the accomplished daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J.B. Lambert, of Leet, was calling on Misses Maggie and Lottie Lucas Sunday afternoon.

Mr. and Mrs. J.B. Toney and children, of Big Creek, were visiting at Toney Saturday evening and Sunday.

Messrs. Clerk and Wilburn Adkins, two jovial republicans of this place, were calling on friends in “Pumpkin Center” last Sunday.

Miss Evana Fry is suffering with a felon on her finger.

“Pumpkin Center Times Star,” a local correspondent from Ferrellsburg in Lincoln County, West Virginia, offered the following items, which the Lincoln Republican printed on Thursday, March 23, 1911:

The weather is fine at the present writing.

The farmers are hustling about getting ready to plant potatoes.

Walt Stowers is very ill with indigestion.

Richard Tomblin and his son, Coon, George Fleming and James Gore, of Pumpkin Center, were arrested a few days ago on a charge of grand larceny and confined in the Logan county jail to await the action of the grand jury. It is believed by many that they will have to serve a sentence in the penitentiary. Mr. Tomblin is a well known business man of this vicinity. He was one of the largest stockholders of the Burns Chair factory and was president of the firm when the arrest was made.

The stockholders of the Burns Chair Factory held a meeting last Saturday and elected J.W. Stowers, President. The business will start up at full blast in a few days.

Jeff Burn has just finished a fine dwelling house for Sol Riddle.

E.O. Petrie and F.B. Adkins have the hall about completed which will be occupied by the Golden Rule.

Allen Bryant has recently moved into the Petry and Adkins property.

Our farmers are busy gathering corn.

The sick of this vicinity are progressing nicely toward recovery.

J.L. Hager passed through this section on business recently.

E.W. Lucas, of this place, was transacting business at Leet Monday.

County Superintendent Pauley was visiting our schools the past week delivering excellent instruction.

Christian Lambert is busily engaged delivering coal.

Irvin Workman has returned home from “Pumpkin Center” where he has been engaged in business.

B.B. Holton and brother, Andrew, passed through our midst Saturday on their way to B. Abbotts.

Miss Dollie Toney, who is teaching school at Big Creek, Logan county, spent a day or two at home recently.

Philip Hager, of Hamlin was mingling with friends in our vicinity last week.

Anthony Fry, of this place, was called to Rector, Sunday, on account of the death of his niece.

Tobacco cutting is over.

Miss Lottie Lucas, who is teaching school near Pumpkin Center, visited home friends Saturday and Sunday.

K.E. Toney is building a fine dwelling house near the old home place.

Mae Bias, of Hamlin, was a recent caller at this place.

Albert Wall, of Leet, was seen on Greenshoal, a few days ago.

Miss Dollie Toney, who is teaching school at Big Creek, Logan county, visited home folks Saturday and Sunday.

Misses Ettie Baisden and Maud Dial were visiting relatives and friends at Toney Sunday.

Fred Sanders, of Logan county, visited his sister, Mrs. B.D. Toney, Sunday.

Born: To Mr. and Mrs. J.B. Toney, a fine girl baby. Mother and daughter both are getting along fine.

Farmers are nearly finished saving their corn and tobacco.

A large crowd of people from different sections attended the funeral of Mr. Adkins on last Sunday. Dinner was served on the ground.

D.C. Fry has just returned from a business trip up the N. & W. Railroad.

Misses Fay and Bessie Gill, from Gill, were visiting at B.B. Lucas’ Saturday and Sunday.

A number of our young people attend the closing of a very successful singing school at Rector, taught by Zatto Cummings.

Wilburn Adkins has purchased a Camera.

Ed. Reynolds, a jovial republican of Leet, spent Sunday with friends in our midst.

Owing to the scarcity of mills, B.B. Lucas is working night and day trying to save the cane crop in this section.

M.C. Farley has just returned from the County Seat.

Clerk Lucas has just returned from “Pumpkin Center” and reports a delightful time.
