In 1990, Ronnie Adkins published THE definitive Adkins genealogy book. A great many researchers appreciated his work on Hezekiah Adkins’ line of the family. Hezekiah Adkins was born in 1759 in Virginia, served in the American Revolutionary War, moved from Giles County, Virginia, to present-day Wayne County, West Virginia, about 1810, and died in 1842. His grave markers are yet visible at Winslow on Beech Fork in Wayne County, WV. If you visit the grave site, you will find Hezekiah Adkins buried on the left and his wife Mary “Molly” buried on the right (unlike in this photo). Any Adkins researcher owes a great debt to Ronnie Adkins and his book. THANK YOU, RONNIE.

Here is a photo of my good friend and mentor Billy Adkins visiting the grave site in 1991. Years ago, Billy assisted Ronnie in gathering information about members of the Adkins family who settled in the Harts area of Lincoln County, WV.

Here is Hezekiah’s grave as it appears today (left). His wife Molly is buried to the right.

Hezekiah Adkins is my paternal great-great-great-great-great-great-grandfather through his son, Isaac Adkins (1790-1854).

Here is Molly Adkins’ grave as it appears today. She is my great-great-great-great-great-great-grandmother.

Hezekiah Adkins has a nice military marker positioned at his feet.

I recently visited Hezekiah Adkins’ grave. 30 June 2017.

A short distance from the cemetery, beside of the highway, is this great historical marker commemorating Hezekiah Adkins’ service in the Revolutionary War. Beech Fork State Park is less than five minutes away. 30 June 2017.
That is really awesome, Bran. Love the information and pictures.
How do you find cemetery map plots? There is a cemetery up on the hill 1/4 mile from Hezekiah Adkins Cemetery that we think is called the Elijah Adkins Cemetary. We are looking for another Hezekiah Adkins which should be buried there, but, all we can find is flat rock with the initials H.A.
Thank you,
Scott Stephens
Hi, Scott. I map cemeteries as I find them. Sadly, I see plenty of graves marked by only a rock. All I can do is map what I see today. I wish someone had opted to map these cemeteries from their beginning and either keep the record of burials in the family somehow, an archive, or a courthouse. I have seen a map with plots for a commercial cemetery filed by a long-defunct company in my local courthouse. I have also seen old cemetery maps filed by coal companies. And with no indication of who is buried in what plot–just a map and the plots. Good luck!
There are many descendants on the hill next to plaque of Hezekiah and Mary Levon. I’m a descendant also and if you drive and take a left on Bowen Creek there is a driveway First left and go up the hill you’ll find many graves. I’m a descendant and if you go Memorial Day on Sat especially you’ll meet some of us. Teresa Adkins Corn my email is earlekcorn@gmail.com
I rather enjoyed this post. Hezekiah is something like my paternal 8th great grandfather through my grandmother, Betty Jean Adkins from Logan County. Her grandfather was Tommy J. and his father was Arron Theron Adkins of Harts, WV who was 18 yrs old when he was shot 3 times at the battle of Gettysburg. My father was estranged from his family, so I barely had the chance to know anyone, but I want to reconnect with my heritage, so I’m thinking of driving out to WV to track down some of these sites. I would love to know the address of where I can find this??
Hi, Philip. Hezekiah Adkins is buried in Wayne County near Beech Fork Lake. If you decide to visit, I’ll give you exact directions.
