Brandon, so this is where our Thompsons and Nelsons lived (and of course, lots others) and that has been flattened? Is there no old pieces of wood or stone where a cabin may have been? I was shocked cause I didn’t know a strip mine had been on Queens Ridge. That’s where Dolly Faye Nelson and Lewis Thompson lived for awhile and got married. 😦
The entire area of Queens Ridge has been mined, with more mining planned for the not-so-distant future. I’ll put it like this: No one really lives at Queens Ridge anymore; only the dead are buried on the ridge (a lot of graves, too). It’s a beautiful place. We drive out there every so often and look at the streams and ridges. From what I’ve been told, much of the ridge has been “hollowed out” by deep mining. A few people have expressed concern about the ridge collapsing at some point in the future. Sounds catastrophic, I know.
