A correspondent named “Uncle Joe” from Chapmanville in Logan County, West Virginia, offered the following news, which the Logan Banner printed on May 5, 1922:

We are still having fair days and cool nights.

Miss Ruby Wagner has returned from the hospital at Huntington and is getting along nicely.

Mr. Oscar Langdon has left our town for Cincinnati.

Miss Alma Wagner looked lonesome Sunday. Where was L.T., Alma?

We wonder where they go when they take a ride here?

We saw two sweet gigglers out promenading all alone Sunday. Where were the boys?

Bug makes several trips to town during the day, but what does he care, for he gets his rides free.

Miss Eunice Ward and Mr. Hobert Spurlock were at the show Saturday night.

Miss Queeney Conley was shopping in town this week.

Some of the young folks were calling on Miss Clee Conley and thought they were on a merry go round.

Every person is always anxious to know who sends in the news. We wonder, who sent this?

Still more improvements and better wages at the mines here. You ought to make good money, boys.

When is Rev. Langdon going to preach for us again? It seems a long time between times.

Did we see Miss Maud Garrett and Mr. Wilbart Langdon out walking Sunday, or was it just imagination?

You’re not in style in our town unless you have a gray cap.

Mr. Roy Hager, of Big Creek, was calling on Miss Ida Butcher Sunday.

The handsomest man of Chapmanville has gone to work.

Mrs. Levy Hensley and daughter have returned to their home at Chapmanville after a short visit at Stone Branch.

Anna Justice, Hattie Clay and Mazie Bates were calling on Lola and Wanda Ferrell Sunday.

Mrs. Nettie Pauley was visiting relatives in this town Sunday.

Mr. Morgan Garrett has gone to work in Logan.

A correspondent named “Cutie” from Chapmanville in Logan County, West Virginia, offered the following items, which the Logan Banner printed on February 3, 1922:

We are having some nice weather at this writing and everybody seems to be enjoying life.

School is progressing nicely here under the management of W.J. Bachtel, principal.

Rev. Langdon is holding a revival here at present. He is having great success, large attendance and several have been converted.

We think the Tompkins mines will have to be enlarged since the Chapmanville boys have gone to work.

Mr. Chilton Chapman took Miss Lola Ferrell home Sunday night. Call again, Chilton.

Red caps are stylish here now. I wish I were a girl, but you know boys don’t wear red caps.

There is a bunch of boys and girls employed here in letting S (?) pass.

Miss Maude Ferrell was wearing a ten cent smile. Wanda, did you get a good letter?

Miss Devonah Butcher will leave for Charleston the first of the month where she will enter high school.

Mr. Jim Bryant and Millard Brown have just returned from New York where they have been taking mechanical training.

Mr. Klinger and Miss Gay Stone seem to be enjoying the morning air. Gay says Klinger is all right. Now, what do you girls think about it?

We are sorry to say that Mrs. Julia Conley is very ill at this time.

Miss Maud McCloud seems to be very lonely now days. Cheer up, Pearlie will come back again soon.

The intermediate class of the Christian Sunday School motored to Blair Mountain Sunday where they enjoyed a picnic. Those enjoying the affair were: Mr. J.H. Barker, teacher; Misses Bernice Ward, Mabel Ferrell, Inez Barker, Oline Curry, Minnie Ferrell, Vivian Ferrell, Sarah Ferrell, Martha Dingess, Hazel McCloud, Lorena, Walton, Miss Rhoades, Lola Ferrell, Julia Ferrell, Beulah and Margaret Ballard, Dr. and Mrs. Ferrell, Paul Winter, Kyle Ballard, Ward Ferrell, Carlos Ferrell, Lamar Collins, Arnold Barker, Tracy Vickers, Dennis Stone, Joe Stone, Orville Barker, G.W. McCloud, G. Fowler, Bud Waugh, and Charley Garrett.

A wonderful time was reported.

Misses Ruby and Hazel Saunders of Big Creek were visiting here Saturday.

Mrs. A.F. Carper is visiting relatives in Montgomery at the present time.

Mrs. H.T. Toney who has been visiting relatives in Flatwoods returned to her home here Saturday.

Miss Tollie Ferrell of Logan spent Sunday here with homefolks.

Mrs. D.R. Hilton is visiting relatives at Price, W.Va.

Mr. Conley of Peach Creek was calling on Miss Barker Saturday evening.

Mrs. Lettie Munsey is conducting a revival at the Church of God. We hope she will be very successful.

Rev. Creeds preached at the Christian church Sunday morning and evening.

Miss Grace Workman left Thursday morning for Huntington where she will spend a few days.

Miss Susie Carper who has been in Roanoke, Va., for the past year returned to her home here this week.

Miss Inez Barker and Mrs. A.F. Carper spent the latter part of the week in Huntington.

Miss Nora Whitman of Man is visiting her sister of this place.

Miss Bernice Ward entertained at her home Saturday evening. Those present were: Ruby Saunders, E.J. Toney, Mabel Ferrell, Inez Barker, Lola Ferrell, Martha Dingess, Zeeda Elkins, Dr. Ferrell, Lamar Collins, Luther Bias, Carlos Ferrell, Walter and Ward Ferrell, Dennis and Joe Stone, Orville and Arnold Barker, Fred Garrett and Kyle Ballard.

Miss Inez Barker, president of the Young Peoples’ class of the Christian Sunday school, delightfully entertained the class at her home Saturday evening. Those present were: Lola Ferrell, Martha Dingess, Gladys Lowe, Bernice Ward, Beulah Ballard, Hazel Saunders, Ella Toney, Mabel Ferrell, Dr. Ferrell, Lemar Collins, Kyle Ballard, Burva Crace, Ernest Ward, Dallas Toney, Ward and Walter Ferrell, G.W. McCloud and Arnold Barker. All reported a wonderful time.

Rev. Screeds preached at the Christian church Sunday morning and Sunday evening.

Miss Ruby Saunders spent the week end at Big Creek.

Carlos Ferrell made a flying trip to Phico Sunday.

Miss Eva Barker of Henlawson was calling here Monday afternoon.

B.H. Snidow returned Monday after a business trip to Roanoke, Va.

An unknown correspondent from Chapmanville in Logan County, West Virginia, offered the following items, which the Logan Banner printed on March 11, 1921:

The Chapmansville school is progressing nicely under the management of J.W. Batchel and Robert Vickers and Miss Eliza Garrette.

Some of the girls are looking to get plenty of boys in school, especially Miss Wanda Ferrell and Lola Ferrell. “Come on, Mr. Wayne,” is what Wanda says.

Mr. Steward can’t cobble shoes to do any good any more for the girls of Chapmansville.

Mr. Bob Hale bought in three fine Holstein cows from Ravenswood.

Mr. Edward Turner is swinging the girls now.

Mr. Charles Farrette of Big Creek is attending school now.

Miss Wanda Ferrell of Big Creek is going to be baptized Sunday.

Chapmansville is coming out of the kinks. She is going to organize a baseball team under the management of W.J. Bachtel.

Wayne Brown is getting sporty lately. He is sweeting the girls on candy, especially one on Big Creek.

Billy Carper and Jonnie Fry have no girls now. They visit the school house often. Cheer up.

Chapmansville is on a boost now. A soda fountain came in today for W. Conley and Hot Springs Bryant.

Six houses are being built in this village at present for Peter Ferrell.

Miss Eliza Garrett, who is teaching the primary department at Chapmansville, visited her home folks Saturday and Sunday.

Mr. Howard Barker and John Dent, who have been working at Big Creek, returned to their homes Saturday. They claim they have been exposed to measles.

Mrs. George Seagraves, who is teaching the primary department at the Barker school, says she will finish her school upstairs on account of her room being cold. She is behind three weeks. Miss Emma Stowers is principal, her term for this year closing March 9th.

Miss Emma Stowers and Bertie Barker attended church at the Lane Sunday.

Miss Bessie Barker, who has been visiting her homefolks for the past week, returned to her work at Logan Sunday.

Mr. and Mrs. Robert Homer attended church at Lane Sunday.

Mrs. Ed Haner is on the sick list.

Misses Myrna Sanders and Nora Stollings attended church at the Lane Sunday.

Mr. Lacy Browning is on the sick list. The attending physician says he is threatened with fever.

The Farmers Telephone Company of this place have rebuilt their line and we hope that adjoining lines will do likewise.
