An unknown correspondent from Banco on Big Creek in Logan County, West Virginia, offered the following items, which the Logan Banner printed on September 17, 1926:

Mr. F.D. Lucas of Trace Fork died at his home Tuesday, Sept. 14, after a long illness. Mr. Lucas had seen the frosts of many winters, being near eighty years of age. He is survived by a wife of eight children and a host of grandchildren and one brother known as “Uncle Bill” Lucas. The four daughters are Mrs. Julia Toney of Chapmanville, Mrs. Mollie Vance of Banco, Mrs. Fannie McKinney of Crites, Mrs. Vergie Turner of Chapmanville. The four sons are J.V. Lucas of Trace Fork, B.R. Lucas of Banco, R.L. Lucas of Banco, Ralph Lucas of Vickers Branch. Interment took place at the family graveyard. The bereaved family have our heartfelt sympathy.

The school at this place is progressing nicely under the management of Mrs. Rosa Barker.

Miss Ida Rene Lucas of Logan has been visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.V. Lucas on Trace Fork the past week.

Everette and Jesse Justice motored to Kentucky last week.

Mr. H.F. Lucas of this place and his girlfriend of Estep motored to Chapmanville last Sunday and attended the basket meeting held by Rev. Green McNeely.

Miss Louisa Pardue of Banco was visiting her sister, Mrs. Sadie Ball at Lake last week.

Mr. and Mrs. F.L. Estep and children of this place motored to the head of Ellis Fork last Sunday and were the guests of Mrs. Estep’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. R.L. Ellis.

Okey Justice of Whitman was calling on homefolks near Banco this week.

Miss Marea Lucas of this place left for Chapmanville last Sunday where she will attend high school. She will be missed by her many friends.

Miss Gay Pettit of Braxton county was the dinner guest of Mrs. D.H. Harmon last Sunday and was also accompanied to Big Creek by Miss Clara Harmon.

Miss Eva Ellis of Estep was the guest of her sister Mrs. F.L. Estep last Wednesday evening.

Mrs. Mary Hager of this place was a business caller in Big Creek last Tuesday and was the dinner guest of her son, Ted Hager.

Mr. and Mrs. J.A. Stone of Blair was the guest of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Sanders last Tuesday.

Miss Ruby Bowling of Ohio, teacher of Broad Branch school, was a business caller in Banco and Big Creek Monday.

Miss Anna Ferrell of Estep was the weekend guest of Miss Pearl Hager.

An unknown local correspondent from Banco in Logan County, West Virginia, offered the following items, which the Logan Banner printed on May 28, 1926:

Rev. White of Henlawson, who was the pastor of our church for some time, was back in our midst last Saturday night and Sunday, we are glad to say, and delivered three very interesting discourses. A good crowd attended with much attention.

Mr. and Mrs. Albert Chafin of Chapmanville attended church at Banco last Saturday night and Sunday and were the all night guests of Mrs. Chafin’s sister, Mrs. D.H. Harmon of this place.

The Banco choir met last Saturday afternoon in the center of our town and gave a very interesting and enjoyable concert.

Mr. and Mrs. Levi Duty and children of Squirrel Branch attended church at Banco Saturday night and Sunday.

Robert Gullet of Spring Dale and some of his old pals were out joy riding last Sunday afternoon.

Charles Duty of Spring Dale was slightly injured last Tuesday while unloading some switch ties in Big Creek.

When Basil Duty of Spring Dale gets sight of a certain pretty girl of his town he can walk as lightly as the Meadow Lark can soar in the sky.

The  boy who says he can tell the girls the “sweetest story ever told” over the gate post was trying his experience last Sunday, and we believe the gate post was all there was between the girl and himself.

Jesse Justice and Frank Chapman sure do like Spring Dale these days. They stay up there six days a week and wouldn’t mind to stay the seventh. Time about is fair boys. Each one must wait for their turn to carry the swith ties out if the girls are coming.

Miss Ella Jane Toney of Chapmanville attended church at Banco Saturday night and Sunday and was the all night guest of her cousin, Miss Marea Lucas.

Among those who were out kodaking last Sunday were Mr. and Mrs. J.B. Lucas, Mr. and Mrs. Ted Hager, Misses Gay Pettit, Clara Harmon, and Pearl Hager.

J.M. Harmon and W.J. Vance of Peach Creek motored to Banco last Saturday evening.

Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Hager and little daughter Carmine was the all night guest of Mr. Hager’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Johnnie Hager, of this place Saturday.

Wonder what has become of the sheik that we never see him in town any more?

Miss Ella Jane Toney left for her home at Chapmanville last Sunday evening accompanied by her cousin, Miss Marea Lucas of this place.

Miss Gay Pettit, teacher of the Daisy school, was the guest of Clara Harmon at this place Sunday and Monday. She will soon bid Big Creek goodbye as her school will close this week.

Wonder when there will be a circus for Banco? The parade was one day last week. The clowns went through riding the spotted pony.

An unknown local correspondent from Banco in Logan County, West Virginia, offered the following items, which the Logan Banner printed on May 7, 1926:

Some of the girls and boys of our town have taken a notion to jump into double harness and trot along through life as calm and placid as a mud puddle.

Miss Ida Thomas of Estep and Mr. Ted Hager of this place were united in the Holy bonds of matrimony last Saturday, May 1st, at the home of Mr. Hager’s sister, Mrs. Den Gillenwater, near the mouth of Squirrel Branch. The wedding was a beautiful affair. Rev. White of Henlawson gave a nice talk after which he solemnized the wedding vows. The guests consisted mostly of the bride and groom. The table was set with a very nice diaper. White flowers being the centerpiece.

Miss Gay Pettit of Big Creek was the guest of Miss Clara Harmon at this place last Saturday night and Sunday.

Mrs. Rosa Ellis of Needmore left for Logan last Sunday where she will visit with her sons Charles and Willie Ellis for a few days.

Wonder why Jesse Justice looked so bashful last Sunday? Don’t be bashful, Jess. She was only teasing you.

Mr. and Mrs. J.A. Stone were the guests of their daughter, Mrs. J.A. Thomas, at Estep last Sunday.

Wonder how the ‘Doll’ of Needmore is getting along hauling telephone poles? Stay with it, Roy, and you’ll get done some day.

There must be some attraction around Banco and Spring Dale, as Gardner Baisden has been making regular calls. His excuse is ‘to read the Logan Banner.’ Call again, Peanut, you’re always welcome.

Among those who were calling on Mr. and Mrs. J.B. Lucas last Sunday were: Mr. and Mrs. C.E. Adkins, Misses Gay Pettit, Clara Harmon, Lucille Vickers, and Mr. Jesse Justice.

Wonder if Mr. and Mrs. C.E. Justice are having much success raising chickens?

Mrs. Amanda Justice was the Monday night guest of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Duty.

Misses Hazel Thomas and Nella Varney were callers in Banco last Saturday evening.

Basil Duty of Spring Dale made a flying trip to Curry last week. Wonder what the attraction is up there?

Mrs. B.B. Lucas and daughters Maria and ____ were calling on Mrs. Maggie Gillam last Sunday afternoon.

Mrs. J.M. Hager and Mrs. D.H. Harmon of this place were the all day guests of Mr. and Mrs. B.R. Lucas of Elm street one day last week. They had a very enjoyable day as they were entertained with good soul-stirring hymns on the piano and Victrola, after which they were served with a real good dinner.

Among those who were out kodaking last Sunday afternoon were Mr. and Mrs. J.B. Lucas, Misses Gay Pettit, Clara Harmon, Lucille Vickers, and Maria Lucas.

A.S. Harmon of Barboursville and Mr. W.W. Lucas of Big Creek were the dinner guest of Mr. and Mrs. D.H. Harmon of this place last Sunday.

Mr. H.F. Lucas of this place attended church at Manila last Sunday and listened to a wonderful sermon delivered by Rev. Reedy of Logan, after which he made a grand confession and was baptized last Sunday afternoon.

Mr. and Mrs. Ted Hager and Miss Pearl Hager were pleasant callers in Banco last Tuesday night.
