I wonder what that means: “The Black & White Revue, ALL White Performers”? Were there shows featuring integrated performing companies, but this one had only white performers doing acts with material typically performed by black actors, singers, or musicians? It’s fun seeing the old silent movie stars and their films listed below. That’s what I thought the poster referred to at first: black and white movies. But in contrast to what? Color? Even though color movie film was around then, no one was making movies with it. If you have any info about what that headline referred to, I’d love to learn more. Maybe in a future blog post? I love your blog, by the way. All these primary sources are a fascinating glimpse into another era in a highly specific place.
Actually, I may have found a partial answer. After leaving my comment I googled John Vogel and found he was a well-known manager/promoter of African American minstrel companies. According to Wikipedia, by 1901 he was so successful that he was referred to as “the Minstrel King.” So that’s interesting. Thanks! I like learning new things like this🙏😄
