An artist presented this framed drawing to John at the Museum of Appalachia in the late 1990s…and he gave it to me.

I asked John to make a tape of these tunes for me, and he did.
Those are treasures. The Ed Haley manuscript, which I’ve read more than once, is a treasure as well. If you make any copies of that tape I would surely like to have one.
The posts about local news stories reminds me so much of rural Alabama where I come from…everybody knew everybody’s business!
Every county in America should have a historian such as you. Those stories tell us as as much or more about us than the “big” stories.

Thanks, Terry! I’m working on creating a website/blog that allows me to share the 200+ Ed Haley project (and other projects) cassette interviews conducted by John and I between 1991 and 2000. I have digitized the interviews, which also feature plenty of music. I really appreciate your kind words. I miss John every day. Hopefully, the Haley manuscript will be available in print form someday.
