Mom and I recently marked the grave of Andrew Elkins, our ancestor who served in Company D, 34th Battalion Virginia Cavalry. After the war, Andrew, the son of Marvel and Rhoda (Vance) Elkins, was a Baptist preacher and postmaster at Fourteen in Lincoln County, WV.
This is Brian Elkins in Elkinsville Indiana. Outstanding post! I had 575 ancestors fighting in the War. 353 for the south, and 222 for the North. Out of that total, 83 are all descended from one common ancestor, Ralph Elkins from Staffordshire England, came over in 1657. This family literally fought against each other probably not knowing they were kin. Cosmic.
