The Price Lucas Family Cemetery, which I visited on 3 September 2015, is located on Sand Creek ridge in Lincoln County, WV. Today, this cemetery is popularly known as the Lucas Cemetery or Lucas-Farley Cemetery. To reach the cemetery, drive 3.5 miles up the Big Fork or Laurel Fork of Saw Mill Hollow of Sand Creek. A four-wheel drive vehicle is required. I last visited this cemetery on 12 September 2002.

Greetings. I’m distantly related to the Neace’s via Margaret LaForce Neace. I’ve found death certificates for 3 so far & they all state buried @ the Lucas Cemetery. But there are 14 Lucas Cemeteries in West Virginia. Do you know which one Lilburn, John & Nancy Neace Farley might be buried in? Thanks for any help. 🙂
I believe they are buried in the Price Lucas (aka Lucas-Farley) Cemetery located on the ridge at Sand Creek, Lincoln County, WV. I’m certain that Rafe and Nancy Virginia (Neace) Farley are buried there. If you’re consulting Find-A-Grave for these Lucas cemeteries, be careful! Non-natives to my area have made many inaccurate entries at the site.
I didn’t add any new cemeteries. I used ones added by others.
I added several but Lilburn & Causby’s last 2 kids before realizing at least a couple of them were duplicates.
One of the dups was Nancy so I deleted my dup. They do indeed have her & her husband already added to the proper cemetery. Mary Susan, another dup which I’ve deleted, was already added to the Sias-Lambert cemetery. Somebody else also added Ira Dillard & Albert to the William R. Lucas cemetery & they’ve got a pic posted on Ira’s memorial so I’m assuming they’re correct.
So Lilburn, Causby, John & Leatha could be in Lucas-Farley or William R. Lucas either one. Could you find out for sure?
And do you know whatever happened to their youngest 2 – Joseph & Winfield? I couldn’t find DC’s for them so I didn’t add them.
Here’s a link to Lilburn & his family I either added or linked to: https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/188171609/lilburn-henderson-neace
Thanks for replying. 🙂
Just a word of caution: If you are non-local and using grave entries made by others at FAG, be careful — people have made a ton of inaccurate entries for cemeteries located in my area. It’s actually so bad that if you visit a cemetery looking for some of the graves as shown at FAG you won’t find them. The person may be buried across the ridge, down the hollow, or in another county! The Sias-Lambert Cemetery, for instance, is a complete mess Some years ago, someone who doesn’t live here placed Sias family members who are buried in THREE separate cemeteries into one giant FAG entry. As a Sias descendant and the caretaker of one of the Sias cemeteries, I have mostly corrected the error but I have not yet taken the time to correct the horribly inaccurate Sias-Lambert cemetery, which I first visited nearly thirty years ago. (Mary Susan Neace Headley IS buried there. I descend from the Headleys; her husband is a nephew to my ancestor.) Just a note: My step-grandfather was part-Neace; a lot of what I know about them comes from his family. Lilburn Neace will be buried in one of those two Lucas cemeteries: William R. -Lucas (lately called the Lucas-Adkins cemetery) on Fourteen Mile Creek or Price Lucas at Sand Creek. It likely wouldn’t be too difficult to know since he died somewhat late in 1949. Some of his close family will remember or know. My gut instinct is that he is buried at Sand Creek with his daughter Nancy Virginia (Neace) Farley. I attended school with a lot of their descendants and not only did they hand down the name of Lilburn but they also had his photo. Having said this, Lilburn Neace COULD be buried at the William R. cemetery (lots of unmarked graves there) because at least two of his children are buried in that cemetery: Ira Dillard and Albert. Note: Billy Lucas, the namesake for the cemetery, is my direct ancestor. Knowing the location of Lilburn’s burial would have been so easy not long ago as I interviewed many old-timers who remembered him well, people born prior to 1910. I may have noted some of the stories I heard about him; I’ll check my old interview notes and recordings. You also asked about Joseph Neace — he’s buried at Frye Ridge near his in-laws. I visited his grave a few years ago. It’s located in a remote area of the ridge. Winfield Neace was still alive in the 1990s.
I’ve been @ this a while now. I know all too well the mistakes made @ Find A Grave which is why I barely use the site anymore. Family Search isn’t a lot better. In fact someone added a tree & has Lilburn listed as a child of Jacob & Margaret something – not LaForce. His parents were actually John & Margaret LaForce Neace. His death certificate even says so.
I need name of cemetery for Joseph. And who was his wife? And acc’d to SSDI Winfield died 1993. Don’t know if he married/his wife’s name either.
I also found death info for Frank Neace who was another son of John & Margaret LaForce Neace. It says buried @ Neace cemetery in WV but don’t say county. I found 2 Neace cemeteries @ Find A Grave – one in Lincoln County & one in Cabell County. Do you know which one it is?
How many years have you been working on genealogy? FAG is okay but only as good as the person who contributes the information. Myself, I won’t make a FAG entry unless I have visited the cemetery and mapped it, etc. A lot of non-local folks use online death records to contribute FAG data and make numerous errors. Familysearch is good for quick access to original b-m-d records, especially if you don’t live here and can’t visit the courthouses and see records firsthand. I never use any of its trees. Are you local or are you using online research only to put this together? I’ve visited the graves of most of John Neace’s children. If FAG doesn’t have entries for those cemeteries, I’ll post them soon. I’ve collected over 500 cemeteries, mostly for my own research; adding them to FAG takes plenty of time.
I’ve been at this since my mom died so 14 years. But before that I was a site designer/online software installer so I know what I’m doing as far as websites go. And as far as genealogy goes I’m a stickler for the details (as you can see considering how many times I’ve contacted you now). Nobody’s perfect but I’m pretty close & on the rare occasions I do screw things up I can/do fix it.
I’ve never been to WV. I do a combo of adding people via online research & visiting cemeteries.
John Clarence & Margaret LaForce Neace are both unknown burials. If you could help me fix that it’d be awesome. But as far as their 13 kids go 8 have been found @ find a grave (so far). We’re missing Louisa/Lucy, Nevada/Vada, Winnie/Minnie, Eutace & Ida.
Thanks for talking w/ me. I do appreciate it.
I finally figured out where Margaret’s buried & added her to the proper cemetery. And Eustace Oliver was in the same cemetery. Now we’re just missing the 4 girls. Do you know if they grew to adulthood & married?
