It is nice to see someone visiting these old cemeteries. There is an old cemetery where my grandfather a WWII veteran William Lester Stamper it is called Hager and my cousin says it’s hard to get to and very bad shape and the land owner has put up fencing to keep people out and she is almost 60 and still tries to go there and put flowers on her grfather and grmother’s graves which are also there. If you ever get a chance to document that cemetery, I would love to know someone was looking after them.
Hi, Linda. My mother and I are related to some Stampers through our Elkins line. We recently found some of them buried at Stone Branch in Logan County, WV. Where is your grandfather buried?
Maggie Elkins Stamper is my gr grandmother on my mother’s side. I believe her and Troy Leander Stamper and a baby Un named is buried at lily cemetery about mile and half from stone branch. My gr father William Lester and at least his brother Ted and his wife Trina are at a Hager cemetery, past where Tom Hamons lives or used to live. Trina, Ted’s grand daughter tries to go there. Nice to meet you cousin! We also have a Stamper Cousins page on facebook. We got markers for Troy and Maggie should be ready in a month and our cousin Judy. O’Brien will take them to Lily cemetery. I hope those are the Graves you located.
Those appear to be the cemeteries/graves we located at Stone Branch. How wonderful. My paternal cousins (last name “Dial”) live down below the two cemeteries at Stone Branch. The small Lilly cemetery behind their homes is well-kept. I had no trouble photographing and mapping it. The other much larger cemetery was overwhelming in size and poor condition. We photographed it but did not attempt to map it. Someone had set up a deer stand and deer feeder right in the middle of the cemetery! I would love to clear that larger cemetery…especially since I know I have cousins buried there. We do a lot of cemetery restoration here. I’m so glad to know you are “out there” and bringing in markers for the old graves. How wonderful. Who was Maggie’s father?

Me
Hi, Linda. That’s wonderful! I descend from William D. Elkins, too. Mom and I recently placed a Confederate flag at his grave near Greenup, Kentucky. I descend from his daughter, Nancy Emerine (Elkins) Elkins.
Oh heavens, you’ll have paid protestors at his grave. Hopefully not. You guys have been busy, I’ve been reading a lot of your cemetery posts and enjoying the pics. Have you heard or seen the Skeens graveyard since they put in East Lynn Dam. they were supposed to have moved all the Graves but I have not seen where it was moved? My paternal gr.mother was Laure Ellen Skeens, her Dad John Baxter Skeens. He was shot and killed by the Spurlock family at his brother Franks house. they thought he was Frank who had been feuding with his neighbors. I think a lot of my dad’s family was buried at the Skeens cemetery . sent you an invite to the Stamper Cousins page . Linda

Hi there! Yes, we stay busy with cemetery work. It’s a type of research but also community service. I enjoy it. Only a small piece of the work is reflected here at the blog for now. Yes, I’ve driven by the Skeen Cemetery sign at East Lynn many times and visited it once, many years ago (c.1998). Regarding the Spurlock-Skeens feud, I have located some of the old newspaper stories that provide information about particular events. I’m a feud historian, so I collect anything about feuds. I may include some of the history in my next book.
My uncle mac told me about it as John Baxter Skeens is my gr gr father .

Brian, where did you find troy and maggie stamper…now we’re not sure where to put the stones. HELP!
Linda. I looked through my photos from the Stone Branch cemeteries. Your family members are buried up behind my cousin’s home. I took photos of Theodore’s grave, and also the others. When you’re in the neighborhood, I hope we get a chance to meet you and your family. I live about five minutes from the cemetery.
I talked with Evans Funeral home and he gave me direction to Dials Dr. And II posted it to our Stamper’s cousin page. And my cousin Trina who is Ted’s grand daughter confirmed that’s where she turns to go up. We are trying to find a local organization in Chapman that might volunteer to clean it up. Cousin Judy O’Brien is going take markers for Troy and Maggie up when they get finished, if weather holds out. I’m in Kansas not likely I’ll ever make it back there again, health restrictions. Ty so much.
Sounds good! Best of luck.
Send all the pics you have would be great to see all of it.Thank you over and over
